In 2014, when the demand for subsea node exploration (OBN) of oil companies was just budding and most of its peers were still waiting, Dongfang Geophysical Exploration Company had a keen insight into the prospect and future of this technology, and quickly made a strategic decision to transform to OBN, and developed the four core technologies and equipment tools of OBN in advance.
In that year, a well-known foreign oil company announced that it would deploy an ultra-high-density OBN project, attracting many companies in the industry to bid. The marine geophysical exploration branch of Oriental Geophysical Prospecting Company quickly set up a technical team to carry out technical research, and the technical team went through twists and turns, repeated practice, and quickly formulated and formed a complete set of integrated solutions for OBN retraction, positioning, and quality control, which met the requirements of Party A in all directions, high coverage, and large offset distance, and provided technical support for the project to win the bid in one fell swoop.
The first OBN project is a severe test of the comprehensive technical strength of Dongfang Geophysical Prospecting. In the case of foreign technology monopoly, without mastering OBN on-site quality control technology and data processing technology, Dongfang Geophysical Exploration Company gives full play to the advantages of integrated technology and gathers wisdom to tackle key problems. The technical team of Marine Geophysical Prospecting Branch quickly completed the development and upgrade of the four supporting software of OBN, realizing the breakthrough of "from 0 to 1" of OBN quality control software, and the operation capacity comprehensively surpassed that of competitors. At the same time, the Geophysical Prospecting Technology Research Center has made every effort to tackle the key problems of OBN processing technology, and has invested more than 30 experts and technical backbones, and finally formed high-quality data processing software, which provides strong technical support for the project and other subsequent OBN projects.
In order to rapidly develop the OBN business, Dongfang Geophysical has strengthened scientific and technological research, accelerated the transformation of technological achievements, and jointly developed GPR submarine node instruments with equipment companies in the industry, further establishing the status of the main contractor of the global OBN exploration business. The self-developed Dolphin integrated navigation system provides an integrated solution for the integrated navigation and supporting data processing of large seismic exploration fleets. The shipborne offshore modular marine node automatic retraction and release system with optimized layout achieves zero obstacles in the global retraction and retraction operation of shallow water nodes, and realizes the mechanization, automation and remote intelligence of marine OBN seismic operations through modular design and equipped with an Internet of Things system; The self-developed KL-NodeQC quality control software system leads the industry in data quality control functions and computing performance. The supporting technology of the transition zone has greatly improved the efficiency of seabed seismic acquisition and the energy of low-frequency seismic data. In 2022, the world's first large-scale DP shallow water special exploration vessel "Innovator" was launched, filling the gap in the industry and taking an absolute leading position in the competitiveness of the global shallow water transition zone.

Since the beginning of this year, Oriental Geophysical Exploration Company has won the bid for a number of projects such as Qatar 4D OBN project, bp Azerbaijan 4D OBN project, and deep-water ROV OBN in the Gulf of Guinea, opening up a new track for the whole chain of OBN business. As of the end of April, 8 OBN operation teams of the Marine Geophysical Prospecting Branch were in full swing of efficient production overseas, and the OBN business has achieved a full-chain development from transition zone, shallow water to deep water.
Over the past 10 years, the marine business of Oriental Geophysical Exploration Company has vigorously developed OBN exploration and achieved corner overtaking in key core technologies, becoming the only geophysical technology service company in the world with four core technologies of navigation and positioning, node retraction and release, data quality control and data processing, and has successively built a large number of OBN benchmark projects such as ADNOC in the United Arab Emirates, BP in Indonesia, Chevron in Nigeria and Shell in Brunei.
