Thousands of miles of rivers and mountains, only this painting heart: dialogue with Professor Shao Qi - the context of Chinese painting

Time: February 11 (Friday) 19:30-20:30

Location: Good word on the video number

Speaker: Shao Qi (Professor, School of Fine Arts, Shanghai Normal University)

The elements of Chinese green landscape painting that appear frequently at the Spring Festival Gala and the Winter Olympics have made the "green and green" of the "Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" painted during the Northern Song Dynasty 900 years ago deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, transcending time and space, and reproducing the beauty of the thousand years of classical Chinese culture. Green landscape is a kind of landscape painting that uses minerals shiqing and shiqing as the main colors. Wang Ximeng, a teenager in the Northern Song Dynasty, achieved the peak masterpiece "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" by virtue of his stunning green landscape painting method. This Friday, Haozi specially invited Professor Shao Qi, an expert in Chinese painting, to live-stream the interpretation of "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" for everyone, from character to painting, in-depth telling the context of Chinese painting: What is the color of the traditional Chinese color "green"? Why has "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" become one of the top ten famous paintings in China? Where did the beauty in the painting come from? How does an 18-year-old teenager "aerialally photograph" the scenery of the Song Dynasty?

What Adam Smith said about markets and government

When: February 13 (Sunday) 9:00

Venue: ZOOM Conference (ID: 86701659275, Password: 885411)

Speaker: Hong Chaohui (Professor, Fortenmo University, USA)

Adam Smith, known as the "father of economics," is also regarded as the founder of free market theory. However, a careful reading of Smith's original work will find that there are a large number of misunderstandings, misunderstandings, and misbeliefs of Future Generations about Smith's true intentions about the market and government, because they impose on Smith terms that Smith never said, including "market economy," "economic man," "efficient market," "perfect rationality," and "night watchman government," and of course, "an invisible hand equals the market." At the same time, some researchers have ignored Smith's conservative discourse on the role of government, such as "the people should obey the monarch and the government", "patriotism needs to obey officials", "government can be free, moderate, and good", and so on. The keynote speaker will question the four paradoxes of Smith's market theory by restoring Smith's three original English books ("The Wealth of Nations", "Moral Sentiments", and "Jurisprudence Lecture Notes"), newly solve Smith's market definition, and analyze the five characteristics of the market, including limited freedom, relative nature, reciprocal moderation, tangible controllability and incomplete rationality. For the classics, scholars have the responsibility to restore the original documents, correct popular fallacies, and clarify ideological concepts. This is not more truthful, but serious and truth-seeking.

There are probably more than a dozen maps of the envoys drawn by the Vietnamese Yan Exercise Regiment, which have been published or can be read publicly, and they are stored in Hanoi, Paris, and London, although there are individual narratives, but there is no systematic study. On the basis of combing the physical appearance of these Vietnamese Yanxing documents, which are mainly presented in the form of images, this lecture takes four of the Envoy Cheng Tu as the main examples, and combines the relevant historical documents of China and Vietnam to make a more in-depth discussion of the purpose of the production of these color maps with Chinese annotations, the compilation procedures, the characteristics of the pictures, and the historical stories behind the images; different opinions are put forward on the old theory that the Cheng Tu is the actual record of the Vietnamese Yan exerciser's journey to Beijing.

Best-selling sexology: science, pornography and the Chinese media market in the early 20th century

When: February 18 (Friday) 8:00

Venue: ZOOM conference, Cloud Reading World 2022 video number

Speaker: Yiwen Wang (Associate Professor, Department of History, University of Toronto, Canada)

In this lecture, Professor Wang Yiwen will talk about his English monograph Reinventing Licentiousness, which was just published in 2021. The book points to a neglected representative history of the late Qing dynasty and early Ming Dynasty, when old, class-based ideas of sexual immorality were replaced by a new pornography industry. Using previously unexplored material — from police files and investigative reports to briefly existing documents and photographs — Wang Yiwen argues that Chinese pornographic publications represent a unique structure of power and desire that both reflects and shapes the course of history.
