There are about three or four hundred silver gulls in this flock, most of which float on the surface of the Yangtze River, swaying with the waves, playing and resting. After nourishing their spirits, they spread their wings and fly freely in the sky, and when they are hungry, they hover above the waters of the Yangtze River Shoal and Yaogang Gate, swooping down at any time to forage for food.

This river area is a paradise for silver gulls, and their white figures, together with the blue sky and clear water, constitute a pleasant beauty.

Qin Yi, deputy director of the Nantong Police Station of the Nantong Branch of the Yangtze River Shipping Public Security Bureau, said that their police station is located on the edge of the water beach. After the Spring Festival last year, more than a dozen silver gulls flew here, because there were not many of them, and they did not pay much attention at that time. Over time, the population slowly increased. In recent days, it has suddenly been found that there are many silver gulls on the river here, reaching hundreds, which looks spectacular.

"Jointly grasp great protection and do not engage in large-scale development", in January 2019, the battle for the protection and restoration of the Yangtze River was fully launched. In recent years, Nantong has built an ecological barrier, from the banks of the Yangtze River to the wetlands of the Yellow Sea, the quality of the ecological environment has continued to improve, and biodiversity has been significantly restored.

Compared with passers-by such as migratory birds, the species that is regarded as an ecological weather vane by environmental protection workers - the finless porpoise has a tendency to "live permanently" in Nantong. Since 2020, Nantong citizens have had more and more encounters with finless porpoises in the binjiang area. At present, the water ecology of the Nantong section of the Yangtze River has ushered in a turning point, and the vivid picture of birds flying and fish leaping is a clear footnote to the conservation of biodiversity in Nantong.
