During this year's Spring Festival, the "newly launched" Huangpu section of the Suzhou River has become a new "punching point" for ordinary people to visit "one river and one river", and some citizens and tourists commented that it is "comparable to the Bund light scene".
The lantern scene of the Huangpu section of Suzhou Creek is created by the Bund lighting scene creation team - the lampscape under the Huangpu District Greening and City Appearance Bureau, which lasted for two years and was on the "hot search" as soon as it was launched. There are many stories behind the release of this "net red" light scene.

The Bund and the Huangpu section of Suzhou Creek are the two most prominent sections of Shanghai's "one river and one river", and the lighting is the finishing touch in the night scene, and it is interesting to compare the two: the night light of the Bund is brilliant and strong, and the night light of Suzhou Creek is quiet and soft.
Huangpu District Lighting Institute led the creation of the Bund lighting scene and Suzhou Creek lighting scene, director Tao Zhen explained: The Bund is Shanghai's urban living room, please come to the home as a guest, the lighting is naturally bigger, more brilliant, so the Night Light of the Bund is full and warm; Suzhou Creek is the "back garden" in front of our people's homes, illuminating the way home, the lights here should be quiet, soft, elegant, and let people feel warm.

A beam of light lit up in the window of the home is the warmth on the way home, and Huang Saifeng, a young artist who participated in the lighting of the Huangpu section of Suzhou Creek, deeply felt it. He said that when he first arrived in Shanghai, he liked to leave a lamp every time he went out, so that when he came home and entered the door, he could see the lights and would not feel lonely in his heart. "The night light of Suzhou Creek is like the light from the window of the home, and we hope that it will warm everyone who passes by."
During the construction process, Suzhou Creek Lighting took inspiration from the intangible cultural heritage "Chinese Shadow Puppet Play" and adopted a very different approach from the Bund Lighting.

The old master of the design team "pointed" to see the lamp in this way - the light scene of the Bund "with light and shadow", led by light, creating a brilliant and shocking visual effect, and through the rhythm of light and shadow, reflecting the sense of breathing that imitates natural light; in the night lighting of Suzhou Creek, it is rare to see large-scale flood lighting, focusing more on the silhouette and inner transparency effect of windows, columns and corridors, from the inside to the outside "to shadow light", to create a restrained and warm atmosphere of life.
"Storytelling" lightscape
The Huangpu section of the Suzhou River, Zhejiang Road Bridge was once the place where fierce battles took place during the Battle of Songhu in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. At that time, across the bridge, thousands of families on the south bank were lit up, and artillery on the north bank was full of fire. Today, the land plots of wanjia lights have undergone old renovations and have been emptied. But recently at night, as the lights come on, the plot has "restored" its former pyrotechnics: light and shadow jump on the old houses, painting shopping streets, plaques, greenery dotted in the windows, and even the busy figures of residents appearing on the tiger windows...

At night, walking in the Huangpu section of the Suzhou River, many people will find that the scenes of lights are like a play. This is an innovation in the construction of the Huangpu section of Suzhou Creek: the expression of stage production is introduced, and the light and shadow are used to create a "storytelling" lightscape.
The theme of this scene of Zhejiang Road Bridge is "Ten Thousand Lights", and when young artist Huang Saifeng first arrived at the venue, he saw the scene of the old house in the old base that had been sealed, and felt a little lonely. The pyrotechnics of the old city compartments lingered in his mind, so he used his paintbrush to create new pictures. As the main landscape, the old house by the bridge is divided into three sections from bottom to top: the first floor is a shop, which uses lighting to match the old-school style simple signboard and spray painting layout to create a bustling atmosphere in the old city; the second and third floors are residential buildings, dotted with greenery on the real-life balcony, and the silhouette figurative inside the window, combining internal transparency and external lighting, combining virtual and real to show the scene of life; the top reproduces the unique tiger window of Shanghai residential houses...
He gave the drawings to the technical team, who carried out the "secondary creation" - expressing his creativity by means of light expression.

A street cadre working nearby told reporters that after walking so many times on the banks of the Suzhou River, he had never found the building of "Youwei Commune", and after seeing the light scene, he was deeply moved, and wanted to come and see this building during the day...
The aesthetics of ingenuity and technology are indispensable
There is a building at No. 723 South Suzhou Road, and under the projection of light and shadow, the façade of the building presents a dreamy starry sky scene with dotted stars, and there are flocks of pigeons flying on the starry sky. Look closely, there are groups of impermeable steel flakes on the wall, and the light reflects the shadow of the pigeons through these flakes. Interestingly, on the walls, you can see the pigeons flying at night, and during the day you see an art installation of the pigeons composed of impermeable steel sheets.

Night is the shadow, day is the scene, this set of lighting installations with the theme of "sinking fish and falling geese" is the epitome of the ingenuity of the design team.
This set of lights uses 7 lights, 22 sets of impermeable steel sheets, and the light projected on the sheets presents the shadow of the pigeons. The design team member of the District Light Landscape said that in order to make the shadow look like a pigeon, it was necessary to constantly adjust the angle of the sheet and trim the shape of the sheet. There are 22 groups of flakes, some are two in a group, some are in a group of three, and no group of flakes has the same angle and shape. Initially, the design team members placed the flakes by hand and tried many times without success; later, they used computer modeling to accurately calculate the trajectory of the light projection, and then manually placed them, repeatedly debugging the position and angle to present such a picture.
Lightscape building is a delicate task. Thanks to the Bund lighting optimization project, the exquisite technical ability of the design team of the district lightscape has been honed.
There are hundreds of sets of lights along the Huangpu section of suzhou creek, involving a large number of lamps and cables, but the average person can not see these devices from the outside. Now, for the design team of the district lightscape, it is a "small problem" to hide the lamp cable through technical means. In that year, when the Bund lightscape was optimized, the lamps and cables on the historical old buildings along the Bund needed to be hidden, and Huangpu District invited libao experts to work with the design team of the District Lampscape to "cut" the details everywhere.
There are breakthroughs in technology, and there are also new explorations in aesthetics. The ultimate in lighting is to simulate nature. In the Bund lighting optimization project, in order to make the lights "move", the design team simulated the rising sun and the Haoyue, creating a "golden sun and the white of the Haoyue", which made people feel the brightness changes of sunrise and sunset.

In the construction of the lighting scene in the Huangpu section of Suzhou Creek, nature was also boldly simulated. For example, next to the shoreline near xinzha Road, with the help of atmospheric equipment such as fog forest machines, a beam of golden light passes through the trees, creating a landscape of light and shadow swaying and "born to the light", which simulates the "light of the morning light".
Infiltrate everyone's memories and imaginations
Suzhou Creek is the mother river of Shanghai, and the public space formed after the Suzhou Creek is formed is a place shared by the people. In the construction of the lighting scene in the Huangpu section of Suzhou Creek, Huangpu District actively guides the people to participate in it, and jointly depicts the experience, memory and imagination of urban life in this urban space that belongs to the people.
At the bridge of Zhejiang Road, on the wall of the old house by the bridge as the main landscape, in the silhouette of the light and shadow windows, some people are playing saxophones, some people are dancing, some people are looking in the mirror, and there is a cat... These silhouettes are from the paintings of residents of the Bund street in Huangpu District.
There is a "meditation trail" in the Suzhou River shoreline (Xinzha Road - Middle Xizang Road), where the design team uses projection lights to combine "characters" with "shapes" and project them on the trails, where citizens and tourists can walk on the "ridges" of the text and bathe in the baptism of light. The design team also added a QR code to collect heartfelt sentences here, where citizens and tourists can scan the code to enter creative sentences, which may become a new scenery of the "meditation trail" after careful screening.

The old buildings on the banks of the Suzhou River, the Guanglu Building and the Yizhong Building, staged cultural and creative projection shows from time to time, and not long ago, they also performed the "Shadow Moving Grandma River" light and shadow show. The completion of this scenery benefited from the participation of the Huangpu District Committee of the Minjian Construction Association, and Le Zhenwen, a Shanghai art painter and president of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee Calligraphy and Painting Institute of the Minjian Municipal Committee, and his wife Zhang Chi painted poems into the light and shadow, and the long scrolls of ink painting showed "oriental rhymes and Chinese style".
The "beauty" of Suzhou Creek is still being explored, the landscape transformation of the Huangpu section of Suzhou Creek is further extending to the hinterland, and the linhe plot has completed the old transformation, and will be linked with the Suzhou Creek to create a public space with a sense of history and shareability.
