Musk was elected as a member, why did Musk achieve such great success?

The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) recently released a list of inductees, including Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk.

Elon Musk was born in South Africa in 1971. His mother, Maye Musk, is a model and nutritionist. His father, Errol Musk, is an electromechanic, and Musk calls his father "a terrible man." His parents had three children, and the star entrepreneur is now the eldest of three, with South African, Canadian and American citizenship.

As a teenager, Musk was short in stature and somewhat thin. In addition to his love of reading, tinkering with computers is his greatest hobby. His classmates looked down on the introverted boy and often bullied him. It wasn't until he suddenly grew into a big boy that he learned to fight back.

In the summer of 1995, Musk entered Stanford University to pursue a Ph.D. in applied physics. He spent only two days at school before stopping his studies because his brother, Kimball Musk, had also moved to California. The Internet was already a hot topic at the time, and the brothers decided to start a startup together.

Initially, the brothers started a software company called Zip2. Publishers can use software developed by the company to put area maps and address lists on their websites. At the time, both The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune were customers of the Musk brothers. In 1999, American computer maker Compaq bought the startup for the equivalent of 280 million euros. Elon Musk made a profit of nearly 20 million euros from the acquisition.

Later, Elon Musk founded X.com, an online financial services and electronic payment business. X.com's main competitor is The Conffinity company, founded by Peter Thiel and 2 other founders, was founded just a few months after X.com. In March 2000, the two companies merged. In February of the following year, the new company, renamed PayPal, was mainly engaged in private remittance business.

Two years later, online auction service Ebay bought PayPal for $1.5 billion. Elon Musk was only 31 years old at the time. As paypal's largest shareholder in PayPal, Elon Musk received $165 million of that.

Now, Elon Musk has invested all his assets in the company he founded at the expense of the risk. The three companies operating at the same time focus on risk in three different areas of humanity: climate risk, dependence on a single planet, and risks posed by ARTIFICIAL intelligence. Tesla Motors, SolarCity and The Boring Company are all working to accelerate the electrification of greener electric vehicles and transportation to reduce climate risks.

Musk also believes that if humans are confined to one planet, the long-term survival of humanity will be threatened. Sooner or later, he believes, humanity will be destroyed by a catastrophe, such as an asteroid hitting the Earth, a supervolcano eruption, a nuclear war or a plague pandemic. As a result, Musk founded SpaceX, a space exploration technology company, in May 2002.

Musk taught himself some of the basics of building rockets. And early on he hired Gwynne Shotwell to manage the company's business development. The woman will soon become Musk's right-hand man at SpaceX. Today, Shortville is a legend in the field of global space technology. Without her, the company might have failed long ago.

Musk and some like-minded people feel that super-artificiality will only pose a huge existential risk to the future of humanity. As a result, he founded openAI, a non-profit company, in December 2015. The aim is to develop "artificial intelligence" that is friendly to humans.

OpenAI makes its findings available free of charge in order to make AI transparent and safer. OpenAI also aims to prevent powerful groups from monopolizing AI on their own.

Elon Musk is a brilliant creator with visionary vision and extraordinary abilities. But he's not a perfect hero. According to some employees, he was unusually hardworking, often working 80 hours a week and wishing his engineers had worked as crazy as he did.

It is said that when he is stressed, Musk will have a big temper. Employees are often fired immediately for a small matter. He did things quickly, sometimes too quickly, so he had to apologize for his tweets many times. U.S. stock exchange regulators have also had to monitor him because his tweets often cause stock prices to float.

In May 2020, Musk clashed fiercely with U.S. authorities. The reason is that he violated COVID-19 restrictions and let him start work at tesla's electric car factory in California. In addition, musk left a bad impression on the rescue of young Thai football players two years ago, which many people still remember.

Despite these controversies, after Tesla and SpaceX got through the start-up difficulties, nothing could stop Elon Musk from stopping him. As SpaceX's economic benefits grew, he was getting closer to his last goal. Because Musk wants to die on Mars, which is inhabited by humans.
