"The survey shows that the food safety of domestic raw egg products is guaranteed, the price difference from ordinary eggs is large, and the implementation standards are not uniform." On February 9, the Shanghai Municipal Consumer Protection Commission released the results of the "raw eggs" consumption survey.
According to the sales volume of major platforms, the Consumer Protection Commission of Pudong New Area of Shanghai selected 10 edible eggs and 2 ordinary eggs on the market for a number of physical and chemical and health tests.
According to the provisions of various national food safety standards, a total of 13 indicators were tested, covering pollutant items, microbial items and veterinary drug residue items, representing high-risk items in various safety indicators.

The sampling results show that 13 items of 12 products are not detected, especially 2 ordinary eggs, the same test standards, the same test results, indicating that the product safety factor of this sampling inspection is high, and food safety is more secure.
The survey also found that the price of edible eggs is significantly higher than that of ordinary eggs, and the maximum price difference can reach 5 times. At the same time, the Pudong New Area Consumer Protection Commission found that there is currently no unified implementation standard for raw eggs. Of the 10 edible egg samples surveyed, 3 samples were implemented according to enterprise standards, while the other 7 samples implemented the GB 2749-2015 National Standard for Food Safety Eggs and Egg Products.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in July 2021, the price of edible eggs is 4-5 times that of ordinary eggs. Why is "raw eggs" so expensive?
Most of the brand promotion of raw eggs on the market is almost to "ensure that salmonella is free" as the main theme, which shows that the biggest feature of raw eggs that distinguishes them from ordinary eggs is the strict requirements for the degree of microbial pollution.
According to the test results, 2 ordinary eggs and 10 raw egg products 13 testing indicators are within the scope of the standard requirements, which shows that most of the raw egg production enterprises can still keep the bottom line of safety, and also from another aspect, raw eggs are not obvious compared to ordinary eggs, and in terms of marketing, there is a suspicion of "IQ tax".
According to this survey activity, the Consumer Protection Commission of Pudong New Area of Shanghai issued a consumer tip, consumers should buy on demand to avoid blindly following the trend. Pay attention to the purchase of large brands when purchasing, the quality is guaranteed, the standard is more stringent; properly stored and eaten within the validity period to avoid artificial secondary pollution; the elderly and children with poor physique and weak spleen and stomach function try to eat cooked egg products as much as possible.
