Xinmin Evening News (reporter Jin Minyi) Rechargeable hand warmer is an electronic product that uses lithium batteries to provide energy for heating, but do you know that if used improperly, it will also cause low temperature burns. Recently, the Shanghai Municipal Consumer Protection Commission tested 21 rechargeable hand warmers, one of which has a maximum surface temperature of 64.7 °C.

Among the 21 hand warmers, 1 has only a heating function, and the remaining 20 have both heating and charging treasure functions. The test found that in terms of marking instructions, 6 samples were complete in specification, and 2 samples only indicated warning words, lacking product name, model, rated capacity, charging voltage, instructions for use, etc., which may bring inconvenience to consumers.

In the overcharge test, 11 samples have an overcharge protection design, making the charging process safer. In the drop test, 15 samples can still be used normally after falling freely from 1 meter, and the remaining 6 models cannot work normally, of which 1 has a cracked shell.

In the thermal abuse test, all sample battery cells did not catch fire and explode in a high temperature environment of 130 °C. There are 4 samples with battery leakage or voltage drops, and there is a certain safety risk when used in high temperature extreme environments.

In the heat test, the maximum temperature of the sample surface is generally 48-58 °C, 2 models are lower than 48 °C, and 5 models exceed 58 °C. One of the models has a maximum surface temperature of 64.7 °C, and prolonged contact may cause low temperature burns.

The Consumer Protection Commission said that in the test, the comprehensive performance of the four hand warmers, namely the Lucky Bag Hand Warmer, the Bubble Girl Hand Warmer, the Flying Bear Hand Warmer, and the Warm Pet Hand Warmer, was excellent.

【How to choose and use the charging hand warmer】

1. Preferred USB charging hand warmer

The new charging hand warmer is small and portable, the heating temperature is controllable, and the use of USB charging has more advantages than the original generation of storage type electric hand warmer with large volume and weight, high heating temperature (up to 90 °C) and 220V AC charging.

2. Check the relevant identification of the product

Priority is given to hand warmers with complete marking specifications, some products come with a charging treasure function, if the battery capacity and voltage are not indicated, or the rated energy exceeds 100Wh, they cannot be carried on the aircraft.

3. Avoid prolonged use

Use the charging hand warmer, to "take it, put it down", beware of low temperature burns.

4. Pick products with overcharge protection design

It is recommended to purchase products with overcharge protection. Use an adapter that meets the product parameters, the charging time should not be too long, and avoid using it while charging.

5. Avoid falling and pay attention to battery health

Battery avoid high temperature, humidity and other environments, if accidentally dropped, to check whether the heat is abnormal. Considering the health of the battery, it is recommended that the product life not exceed 2 years.
