Recently, a French pharmaceutical company said that it is developing a vaccine against acne (acne) [1].

but! Don't get too excited too soon!
Actually, this is not a very new news.
The news was publicly reported in the Daily Mail as early as 2011, when the team only achieved some results in mice [2,3].
This time it was hyped up again because the pharmaceutical company recently acquired the above-mentioned vaccine development biocompany, claiming that the vaccine had entered preliminary clinical research in the third quarter of 2021 [1].

As for whether this vaccine is useful or not, whether it can be played, we will analyze it comprehensively.
The mechanism of acne is not fully understood, and is generally thought to be related to increased lipid secretion, excessive keratosis of the follicle, inflammatory response, and proliferation of Propionibacterium acnes [4].
The pimple vaccine is a precise fight against Propionibacterium acnes.
In general, propionibacterium acnes on the skin secretes a virulence factor, Camp factor (Christie-Atkins-Munch-Peterson), which aggravates skin inflammation [3].
The acne vaccine is mainly fired at the CAMP factor.
The acne vaccine contains immunotherapy antibodies to the CAMP factor, which neutralize the CAMP factor, which can alleviate the work of Propionibacterium acnes and reduce the inflammatory response caused by it [3].
You can think of this as a skin battle:
We will put a new potion called "Pimple Vaccine" (antibodies containing the CAMP factor);
poured onto the surface of gunpowder (CAMP factor) used by the enemy (Propionibacterium acnes);
Occupy the skin heights by making the enemy gunpowder incapable of being ignited;
Thus obtaining a piece of peace and tranquility of the skin.
Although there is no problem in principle, it does not mean that you will not get acne after vaccination.
First of all, there are many causes of acne, and it can be seen from the mechanism that this vaccine is mainly aimed at acnes caused by Propionibacterium acnes, and as for other causes of acne, it may not be able to do anything.
That is to say, not all acne vaccines work, it can reduce the occurrence of acne, but it can not make people never have acne.
In addition, the principle of this vaccine is to accurately combat the CAMP factor, in fact, there are 5 different types of CAMP factors.
The published study focused on CAMP factor-2, and whether it is effective for CAMP factors -1, 3, 4, and 5 requires additional research support [3].
More importantly, the vaccine is only in the preliminary clinical research stage, and it still needs to go through long clinical trials such as phase I, phase II and phase III to verify.
Looking at it now, there is still a lot of uncertainty.
Whether it can be successfully developed is still a problem. Even if all goes well, it is questionable whether we are suitable and when we can play.
So, let the bullets fly a little longer.
In a short period of time, the acne vaccine is hopeless, and if you want to have less acne, it is better to start from your usual prevention.
Do these 5 things well, more reliable [4]:
Eat less high-sugar, greasy foods;
Regular work and rest, do not stay up late;
Do a good job of sun protection;
Leaves skin fresh and not greasy;
Don't believe in folk remedies, don't wipe acne products on your face.
