GM will recall nearly 1,800 full-size SUVs due to the risk of jamming in the rear axle

Recently, GM announced that it will recall 1789 full-size SUVs due to supplier problems that may cause premature wear of its rear drive axle and may lead to its final card-hop involving models including the 2021 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, the 2021 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, and the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe. These models use problematic parts produced by suppliers.

It is reported that the batch of problem products is mainly the rear-wheel drive shaft assembly of the recirculated ball that has not been properly heat treated, and its supplier has informed GM about the batch of problem products in October last year. Over the next month, GM worked to assess the potential impact of the product in question on drive shaft durability and reviewed its records to understand which vehicles at its Arlington, Texas plant were manufactured with the part. In November, GM determined that there may be a long-term durability problem with the product, and in December opened a formal investigation, and finally made a decision to recall it in the near future.

GM said in the recall announcement that GM will replace the left/right rear drive axle components free of charge for the recalled vehicles to address the risk of rear drive shaft jamming caused by possible premature wear and tear problems. In addition, GM also warned the owners of the vehicles concerned in the statement that if they notice a gradual increase in noise and vibration from under the vehicle, they recommend immediately going to a nearby point of sale for inspection, as this may be a sign of component failure.
