This was Frank, a black guy who had been beaten so badly that he was hanged from a tree by a white man ten minutes later. "Hanging" was his own request, because the white man intended to burn him to death.

A 14-year-old white girl, who was covered in her head and raped to find her killer, happened to be nearby the black guy's "pony", who was forced to confess to rape after being whipped 100 times. Ten years later, when the real murderer was raped again, it appeared in its original form, but in fact, "skin color" was Frank's original sin.
