Daimler officially renamed Mercedes-Benz to focus on passenger car brands and light commercial vehicles

A few days ago, the Daily Economic News reporter learned that Daimler AG officially changed its name to Mercedes-Benz Group AG. In the future, Daimler Greater China Investment Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Daimler Group in China, will also change its name at the same time, and the matters related to the name change are currently subject to approval, and the name change process is expected to be officially completed in the second half of 2022.

Mercedes-Benz said the new Mercedes-Benz Group will focus on passenger car brands including Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach and Mercedes-EQ, as well as the light commercial vehicle business.

At the same time as Daimler completes the name change, Daimler Mobility AG will also change its brand name to Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG and provide financing, leasing and insurance services for passenger cars and trucks.

It is understood that this name change is the third name change in Daimler's history, and each previous name change has meant a major change. In 1926, Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler merged their respective companies, and Daimler-Benz was born, the first time it changed its name to Daimler Chrysler from 1998 to 2007, and the second time in 2007, when it sold Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management and changed it to Daimler AG)。

In February 2021, Daimler AG announced a fundamental restructuring of the group structure, listing Daimler Trucks separately after independence. On December 10, 2021, Daimler Trucks Holding AG was officially listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Some people believe that after the split of Daimler, the two companies can make better efforts in their respective fields, and if necessary, they can also cooperate in technical aspects, learn from each other's strong points, and improve the efficiency of internal research and development, so as to more calmly cope with the transformation challenges of the global automotive industry and changes in the market competition pattern.
