Red Bull: Gasley is ready to take the next step

Red Bull Athletic Director Jonathan Whitley believes Pierre Gasley is ready to take the "next step" in his career.

Gasley was promoted from Red Bull Jr to Red Bull Racing before the 2019 season, however, half a season later he was forced back to Red Bull Because of his performances as he was a far cry from teammate Max Verstappen.

After that, he became captain of The Little Red Bull Racing, but his goal is to seek change in 2023, whether it's Red Bull or quitting the project. Gasley's performance at Red Bull Jr. hasn't gone unnoticed, with Wheatley acknowledging the Frenchman ready to move into the next phase of his career.

He said: "Honestly, I think Pierre is now ready to take the next step, through Gasley and his successor, Alexander Alpen, Red Bull has learned to be more patient with young drivers and found better ways to support them. ”

Arbon held out for a season and a half at Red Bull before being snatched away by Sergio Perez and he will return to F1 in 2022 via Williams.

Whitley explains: "We learned a lot from Alexander, we learned how to help a young driver in a difficult situation. Pierre was the same way, he was back in a small team, and now he was back in confidence. Alexander was an extraordinary young man, a fantastic driver, but a bit like Pierre, who had a hard time being teammates with Max Verstappen and we can now see max being an extraordinary genius. ”

While Alben, like Gasley, couldn't perform well at Red Bull like Verstappen, Whitley praised Alpen for showing "toughness".

He said: "Alexander was dedicated, he never let his emotions triumph over himself and I think that shows the resilience of this guy. ”

In 2022, Red Bull chose to renew his contract with Sergio Perez rather than recallIng Gasley.

Whitley explains: "We want to win the Constructors' World Championship, not just the Drivers' World Championship. We need two drivers to play together and I think Checo has really made us stronger. ”
