#Stories in the Barracks#

The scouts were killed by 20 commanders and fighters in the fire during the capture mission, which became the worst accidental loss in the Battle of Laoshan!

In March 1986, 159 people from the 2nd Company of the Tenth Reconnaissance Brigade of the Lanzhou Military Region, under the leadership of company commander Yuan Hui and instructor Zhang Xinkui, penetrated into the Vietnamese territory of 7 kilometers to the No. 523 highland of the Vietnamese army to carry out a lurking for 2 days and 2 nights near the enemy's water intake.

The company commander immediately ordered the change from capture to sabotage operation, killing 5 Vietnamese troops who took water on the spot, 82 without rear artillery, 100 mortars and anti-aircraft machine guns to open fire on the enemy barracks, destroying 16 Vietnamese barracks and 60 mortars, and annihilating 45 enemy soldiers.

Suddenly, a raging fire ignited, causing the Vietnamese army to be in disarray. After a while, the wind changed direction and the fire lurked in Manyan to our reconnaissance detachment, and the wind took advantage of the fire to quickly turn a large area into a sea of fire, and our reconnaissance detachment was trapped in a dilemma by the fire.

Company commander Yuan Hui led 46 soldiers into a small narrow melting hole, and he blocked the entrance of the cave with his body to protect his comrades, allowing the fire to burn until he fainted in the fire. Instructor Zhang Xinkui broke into the sea of fire to rescue 5 soldiers, and then returned to the sea of fire to save people and sacrifice heroically. Platoon leader Zhang Xingren and military doctor Chen Meihua also died heroically in the rescue of the sea of fire! Our reconnaissance brigade organized forces to evacuate the remains of martyrs, wounded soldiers and all scouts to the country.

A total of 20 people were heroically sacrificed on this outbound mission, including 5 cadres and 15 party members. Zhang Xinkui was awarded the title of "Model Instructor who Sacrificed His Life to Save Comrades- And Comrades" by the Chengdu Military Region, and 2 companies were awarded the title of "Model Company for Unity and Combat" by the Chengdu Military Region!
