Welcome to the Year of the Tiger: Go to the museum in Shaanxi Province and look for various "tiger" cultural relics

In order to welcome the arrival of the Spring Festival of the Year of the Tiger, I carefully selected ten photos of "tiger" cultural relics among the cultural relics photos I took. They come from 10 museums in Shaanxi Province, including pottery, gold, bronze, stone carvings and murals, etc., showing the splendid culture of the Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang dynasties. As a worker in Shaanxi's cultural and bo industry, I hope that through these precious "tiger" cultural relics, I will express my best wishes for the New Year.

1. Western Zhou Tiger Face Copper Crown

Photographed on September 12, 2013 at the Baoji Bronze Museum. In 1980, this cultural relic was excavated from tomb No. 13 zhuyuangou in Baoji City, which is a bronze carriage and horse ware in the shape of an animal's head in the Western Zhou Dynasty. The face of the beast resembles a tiger's head, the middle nose bridge is high, the eyes are round, the eyeballs are hollow, the ears are round, and the teeth of the beast are exposed.

2. Early Spring and Autumn Tiger-shaped gold ornaments

Photographed at the Shaanxi History Museum on July 29, 2020. In 2018, this cultural relic was excavated from the Eastern Zhou Tomb at the liujiawa site in Chengcheng County, Weinan City, as a gold ornament from the early Spring and Autumn Period, in the style of northern nomads. On the tiger's body, it is decorated with lines, hollowed out eyes and nose, short limbs, and a tail curled up.

3. Warring States Qin Period Tiger Button Hammer Yu

Photographed at the Shaanxi History Museum on January 23, 2021. This artifact was unearthed in Ankang City, the specific time and place are unknown, and it is a bronze musical instrument from the Warring States period. In the center of the top, stands a tiger, with its head held high, and its spirit is exuberant. This tiger is a button, used for tethering, hanging on a shelf, and the sound of hitting.

4. Warring States Qin period tiger goose pattern wadang

Photographed on December 3, 2016 at the Hanguang Gate Site Museum of the Tang Dynasty City Wall in Xi'an. This tile is a collection of the Xi'an Qin Brick Han Tile Museum, excavated from the Yongcheng ruins of Fengxiang County, Baoji City, and is a component of the Palace of the Qin State during the Warring States Period. The tiger jumped up, looked back at the mouth, bit the flying goose, and the flying goose spread its wings and roared wildly, and the scene was thrilling.

5. Han Dynasty, Wrong Gold, Silver and Copper Tiger Town

Photographed at the Chang'an District Museum on September 10, 2016. In 1992, this cultural relic was excavated at the infrastructure construction site of the 7171 factory in Chang'an District, with a total of four pieces and the same shape. In the Han Dynasty, people sat on mats and pressed heavy objects on the four corners, known as "towns". The tiger was lying on the ground, its body curled up, its ears behind its back, its four legs together, its claws in one piece.

6. Western Han Dynasty Tiger Pattern Hollow Brick

Photographed on January 15, 2013 at the Hanjing Diyang Mausoleum Museum. In 1999, this artifact was excavated at the Compass Stone Site of Hanyang Mausoleum, representing the White Tiger and symbolizing the West. The head, body and foot of the tiger are outlined with different curvatures, and the body of the tiger is decorated with V-shaped short lines to form tiger hair stripes, the tongue is outstretched, and the teeth are sharp, appearing majestic and sacred.

7. Western Han Dynasty Fuhu stone carving

Photographed at the Maoling Museum on December 4, 2016. This cultural relic is displayed next to huo's tomb as a stone carving in the style of the Han Dynasty. According to the natural form of the stone, it is simply carved, thick and deep, and extensive and heroic. The head, neck and chest of the tiger are connected together, the tiger's tail is rolled upside down on the back, and the tiger's body is clearly marked, lying on the ground, accumulating strength.

8. Western Han Shi Hu

Photographed on March 25, 2018 at the Han Chang'an City Ruins Depository. On October 20, 2004, this cultural relic was collected in Baijiakou Village, the southern suburb of the Han Chang'an City site, and was preliminarily judged to be a relief work of the Western Han Dynasty. On both sides of the pentagonal stone, a tiger is carved in relief, and there is a round hole in the middle of the tiger's body. The tiger shook its head and tail, striding forward, simple and thick.

9. Tang Dynasty Shi Hu

Photographed on January 2, 2021 at the Forest of Stone Steles Museum in Xi'an. This cultural relic was originally placed on the Shinto On the south side of the tomb of Li Yuanxian of Tang Gaozu, and is a representative work of stone carvings in the tombs of emperors in the early Tang Dynasty. The body and base of the stone tiger are connected into one, carved from a huge stone, the tiger is large, walking slowly forward, with its head hanging low and its eyes fixed.

10. Tang Dynasty White Tiger Mural

Photographed at the Qianling Museum on January 13, 2018. Painted on the west side of the entrance to the tomb of Princess Yongtai, this mural is a copy of the content of the tang dynasty murals by contemporaries, and echoes the Qinglong mural on the east side of the entrance to the tomb opposite. The tiger's body was blurred, but the huge head was clearly recognizable, and its eyes were wide open and its mouth was roaring with rage.
