Interventional treatment for liver cancer is usually through the hepatic artery, where a catheter is inserted into the tumor's innervated vessel, from which contrast agent is injected to show the diagnosis of the tumor, and embolization of the tumor is performed with embolic agents such as gelatin sponges, microspheres, or iodine oil. Because liver cancer is a paravascular tumor, embolism can play a big role. Sometimes some chemotherapy drugs or other drugs are injected for treatment, which is the narrow sense of interventional treatment of liver cancer.
