Beijing Winter Olympics – the world's first "city of two Olympics"

Today is a five-day countdown to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. What "firsts" has this high-profile world event created? Let's take a look!

The world's first "City of The Two Olympics"

After 14 years, following the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, Beijing will host the Winter Olympic Games, and Beijing will become the world's first "double Olympic city".

Seven events entered the Winter Olympics for the first time

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics added seven new events, namely women's single snowmobile, short track speed skating mixed team relay, ski jumping mixed team, freestyle ski big jump (men's, women), freestyle ski aerial skills mixed team and snowboard obstacle chase mixed team.

The first all-green electric Olympic Games in the history of the Olympic Games

Practicing the concept of green Olympics, the Beijing Winter Olympics will become the first Olympic Games in the history of the Olympic Games to use all green and clean electricity. All venues of the Beijing Winter Olympics will use 100% renewable energy and green electricity.

The world's first 360-degree slalom track

In terms of venues, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics also set a number of "world firsts". For example, the National Bobsleigh Center track is 1.9 kilometers long, with a vertical drop of 121 meters and 16 curves, which is figuratively called "Snow Dragon". It is worth mentioning that the National Bobsleigh Center has built the world's first 360-degree slalom track, and the construction process has filled a number of technical gaps in China.

The world's first Olympic venue to set up a curling track on a pool

The "Water Cube", which served as the swimming venue of the 2008 Olympic Games, was gorgeously transformed into the "Ice Cube". The Ice Cube also became the world's first Olympic venue to set up a curling track on a pool.

The world's first permanently preserved ski jumping venue

The Shougang Ski Jump is known as "Snow Flying" because of its design incorporating the "flying sky" element in the Dunhuang murals of China's World Cultural Heritage. As the only snow competition venue in the Beijing Division of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, shougang ski jumping platform will become the world's first permanently retained and used ski jumping venue after the Winter Olympics, becoming a professional sports competition and training venue.
