According to previous reports, due to the poor performance of model sales, Volkswagen has previously announced that it will not renew the Passat in the United States and withdraw from the US market by 2023. Volkswagen has moved its exit forward to December 2021.
Although the sedan Passat was discontinued, the Passat Travel Edition, Arteon and Arteon Hunting Edition will continue to be produced, and in China, these three models correspond to the Weilan, CC and CC Hunting Vehicles respectively.
The Passat, one of Volkswagen's most iconic models, has been in production since 1973. In 1974, Passat entered the U.S. market for the first time. Before 1990, the Volkswagen Passat was sold under the names "Dasher" and "Quantum", and it was not until the third generation of the model in 1990 that it was named passat. It has a history of nearly 50 years and has sold more than 1.8 million vehicles in the United States.
However, with the popularity of SUVs, Passat's sales in the United States declined, with sales of only 24,400 units in 2021, and the continuous sluggish sales became the main reason for the discontinuation of the model.
Volkswagen Passat has two main versions, namely the European version of Volkswagen Passat and the American version of Volkswagen Passat. In addition to the US market, the European market also plans to officially stop the production of the fuel version of the Passat in 2023. According to the plan disclosed by foreign media, the Current European version of the Sedan Passat and Arteon models on sale will not be updated in the future, and the Passat Travel Edition may continue to undergo minor changes.
In China, FAW-Volkswagen's Magotan prototype is the European version of the Passat, while the prototype of the SAIC-Volkswagen Passat is the American version of the Passat.
Red Star Capital Bureau has learned that there is no suspension plan in the Chinese market, and these two models are faw-Volkswagen and SAIC-Volkswagen's main models, with annual sales of 133,980 units and 131291 units in 2021, respectively.
