Recently, I opened the book "The First Biography of Niya Hanjian and Han Culture in the Western Regions" by Lin Meicun, a professor at peking university's School of Archaeology and Literature, and the two love letters recorded in the book are fascinating.
"Every thought is right, not willing to bear it"
The first love letter was written like this - Qiang NuBai: After taking the farewell, then Ersimai. There is no reason to meet each other, the book is sparse, every thought is right, not willing to cherish, love with labor. The pawn repeated the message, can not have another book cut, because the number value of the letter to the table. Ma Qiang
The translated meaning is: since separation, you are going west again, and there is no chance of goodbye. The communication between us is hasty and simple every time, and whenever I think of you, my heart is very unwilling. The pain of missing, because of the love and depressed mood. Before leaving, I received your message, and there was no way to write too much, only to cut it down to a few numbers, and if you met the messenger, reply to me.
This is a fragment written about 1500 years ago from the Three Kingdoms to the former Liang, and the handwriting on the wooden jane is small, round, and looks like running on tiptoe. It was discovered by the British explorer Stein in the early 20th century while excavating the ancient city of Loulan (The Long History Mansion in the Western Regions). The ancient love words are only a hundred words, and when read today, the language is straightforward and simple and condensed, elegant and deep, and later interpreted and made public by sinologists Sha Qi, Ma Bole and others.
The Ruins of Loulan are located in the northwest desert of Lop Nur in Ruoqiang County, and it was once the residence of Loulan City in the Han Dynasty and the ChangshiFu in the Western Regions of Wei and Jin.
The woman who wrote the letter called herself a "Qiangnu". Around Lop Nur, there were Qiang tribes in Loulan during the Western Han Dynasty. According to the "Water Commentary on the River Water", "The river water is injected east into Yuze, that is, through the so-called Puchang Haiye. The northeast of shuisui Shanshan, the southwest of Longcheng, the void of Jiang Se, the great country of Hu, the overflow of Puchang And the overflow of his country. Ginger and Qiang are often common, and "Jiang Se's Void", that is, the remaining ruins of the Jiang people or Qiang people at the water's edge.
This love letter makes people think deeply. According to Lin Meicun's research, this love letter from the Qiangnu was written to a Warrior who may eventually break the sand. The sword was sheathed, the arrow was wound, and her lover went to the front line to fight, and did not return it for several years.
I don't know if the cold night wind and the Qiang flute will blow one or two of this Qiang girl's lament to the lover's ear, making him suddenly stand up and sigh, he has been away from the Qiang girl in Loulan City for many years. The moon in the sky, like a round mirror in the world, acacia under the bright moon of a thousand miles, made this Qiang woman's heart wave, and she could not let go of her nostalgia for a long time, and could not help but write this love letter. This love letter is like some whisper, flying in the direction of the lover's conquest battlefield. She hoped that her lover would read the love letter and write back to herself.
However, for some reason, the love letter to "Ma Qiang" was not entrusted to the messenger to send, and finally stayed in the ancient city of Loulan. Qiangnu's lover may not have seen this love letter that made him feel excited until his death. If you see it, you may immediately "return the letter" and circulate it in the battlefield of the western region, becoming an "open love letter", so that those soldiers who are struggling to guard the border pass can taste a kind of warmth.
At that time, there were no other corresponding letters in the other texts unearthed together, and it was impossible to explore what happened between the Qiang woman and the man named Ma Qiang. People say that paper lives for a thousand years, and this bamboo jane also has more than a thousand years of life and heart! For example, in the vast time and space that has achieved and plundered her, the Qiang woman is willing to "not give up her heart, and use her labor (prison) knot" to her lover.
A thousand years later, the flesh of this Qiang woman turned into dust and earth, buried deep in the simple emotions of the heart, through the remnants, under the dazzling sunshine of the desert, the eternal faint traces appeared, explaining to future generations the eternal and new feelings.
However, at that time, she could not have known that this love letter written in The Luwen, along with other excavations at the Loulan site, is now in the Swedish National Ethnographic Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. Thousands of years later, these collections have been interpreted many times by archaeologists: under the lights, under a magnifying glass, the strokes of each word are sniffed out by them with different flavors and stories.
"Greetings to Chunjun, fortunately do not forget"
Another love letter recorded in the book comes from a batch of Han Dynasty bamboo and wood Jane excavated from the ruins of the Western Regions of the Han Dynasty, mostly about military and political affairs, known in history as "Quicksand Falling Jane". But there was a private letter sandwiched between them, on which was engraved in a simple form of small characters: Feng Jing Yi Lang, to ask Chun Jun, fortunately not to forget.
This is naturally also a love letter. Translated into modern chinese: "Chun Jun: I give you a Lang Yue, greetings to you, please don't forget me!" ”
Nowadays, when people look at this wooden jane, they can recognize the handwriting of the jianmu and understand its general meaning.
Lang Jiu is a waist ornament carved from cyan jade. Cao Zhi has a sentence in the "Beauty Chapter": "Waist Pei Cui Lang Jie". It is said that Langyu is produced in the Kunlun Mountains, which is today's Kunlun jade.
According to research, this is still a soldier who is guarding in juyan beacons, in the gap of time in the conquest years of "not breaking the Loulan and never returning", thinking bitterly of the distant and late Chunjun, specially looking for precious things for her, writing this Mu Jian who pleaded with Chunjun to "be lucky not to forget", wanting to entrust the messenger to bring her, hoping that she would not forget herself. But this Han Jian did not send out for some reason, and he was lost in the desolate Gobi Desert in the western region...
A quicksand pendant Jane, only 14 words, concise and meaningful, short and long, after experiencing the scorching sun and frost in the western region, the baptism of flying sand and stones, still maintains an elegant form and connotation, and can be seen again after two thousand years. Reading today, you can still see this love that has spanned thousands of years, and you can hear the real and fiery heartbeat.
It is impossible to know exactly when these two love letters were written, but it can only be inferred from the fragmentation of the jane, at least more than a thousand years ago. When future generations look through the fog of layers of time, along the direction guided by the Jian Mu documents and excavated cultural relics, it is as if they see that on the bustling Silk Road trade road, people's various loves and hates, lovesickness and bitter thoughts, and life and death parting, sinking and groaning in the wind and sand of the wasteland.
The ruins are sealed, and the wind and sand are sealed. Nowadays, the ancient city of the Western Regions has long been "the city corridor is deserted, and the population is cut off", weathered in the sand mountains and the sea and the vicissitudes of change.
Longing is an eternal emotion of human beings, and it is also the eternal theme of literature. Repeatedly reciting the two short love letters of this thousand years ago still makes people truly feel the vicissitudes of this world, the distance between mountains and rivers, and the true feelings of immortality.
