According to the British "Daily Mail" reported on the 20th, a soldier of the British Army wanted to seek "pleasure" so he lit his shoe polish, but it caused a fire and caused a loss of 1600 pounds, and now he has been dismissed by the army.

David Thomas, a 28-year-old soldier, accidentally started a fire at his barracks in Wiltshire when he smelled smoke from burning shoe polish and became "confused." Without his knowledge, burning shoe polish ignited sofas in the common room, triggering smoke alarms, and his comrades-in-arms extinguished the fire with fire extinguishers.

Thomas, who admitted to causing £1,600 worth of damage after lighting the sofa and "scorching" the carpet, has been expelled from the army.

The Burford Military Tribunal learned that the incident occurred in January 2020, when Thomas decided to "hi" himself with shoe polish. According to the report, some shoe polish is classified as a "dangerous substance" because of its high flammability, and when ignited, it releases toxic gases.

Major John Griffiths, who filed the lawsuit, explained how this potentially dangerous situation unfolded. "That day (January 16, 2020), Thomas came to a common room on the ground floor and decided to light and smell the shoe polish to cheer himself up," he said. He lit the shoe polish directly in the jar, then became confused and the shoe polish fell to the floor. ”

Afterward, a groggy Thomas returned upstairs to his room, where the couch in the common room began to smoke and triggered a fire alarm. Witnesses called Thomas "suspicious" and threw away his shoe polish.

Griffiths added, "During the enquiry, he explained that he wanted to make himself happy at the time and that the fire had caused a total of £1625.11 in damage. Although Griffiths was asked to make a compensation order, the court learned that Thomas's assets were only "a little more than £10" and that there was debt to be repaid. The judge called his actions reckless, his mental state very chaotic, and "your actions and potential consequences mean you and the military have to part ways."

Thomas was eventually expelled from the military and needed to serve in the community for 18 months.
