New Guaranteed Income Program in New York City: Some infant and toddler mothers and pregnant women can receive up to $1,000 per month

According to NBCNewYork, New York City's new Guaranteed Income Program will allow New York City moms to significantly increase their incomes to maintain the cost of raising and conceiving their children.

The program, known as the Bridge Project, pays $500 or $1,000 a month to mothers and pregnant women with infants and young children for three years.

In July, the first batch of 100 mothers began receiving money, about half of them African-American, about half Latino, and one-fifth of them undocumented immigrants.

In April this year, the selection of a second batch of 500 pregnant mothers will begin.

Other cities across the country are also experimenting with their own guaranteed income programs to help low-income residents improve their economic situation, and the Bridge Project is the first guaranteed income program to target New York City residents.

The Bridge Project is funded by the Monarch Foundation, a private family fund run by social entrepreneur Holly Fogle and her husband, venture capitalist Jeff Lieberman.

It is understood that the Monarch Fund has provided more than $16 million for the Bridge Project.

Daniela Gutierrez, 28, of Harlem, said she was surprised when a social worker suggested she apply for the program.
