The reason why the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement was so successful was inseparable from his early policies, Hong Xiuquan borrowed Western religious ideas to build political power, in order to oppose the feudal system, put forward the principle of equality between men and women, and the principle of "all the people under the heavens, the people under the world", and abolished the feudal marriage of sale and purchase, stipulating that "marriage under the world, regardless of wealth", thus attracting the participation of a large number of ordinary people.
After the establishment of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, Hong Xiuquan further proposed the Yong'an system, determined official positions, promulgated the celestial calendar, cursed the Qing Dynasty when the demon dynasty, the Qing Dynasty calendar was a demon calendar, abolished the Qing Dynasty chronicle, and implemented the Taiping Celestial Calendar. In order to completely confront the feudalism of the Qing Dynasty, in the ruling areas of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, the people forbade all traditional festivals such as the Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Qingming Festival, and the Lantern Festival. It should be known that the Spring Festival, as the most important traditional festival in the mainland, has a far-reaching impact, so even if Hong Xiuquan promulgated the decree, some people still secretly celebrate the Spring Festival.
For these people who violate the system, how does Hong Xiuquan deal with it? According to historical records, in the first year after Hong Xiuquan occupied the city of Nanjing, there were still many people who privately set off firecrackers and posted couplets, in order to kill chickens and monkeys, these people were found by the Taiping Army, they would be arrested and beheaded. After a long time, no one dares to celebrate the Spring Festival and other traditional festivals.
If you don't let the Spring Festival pass, can you celebrate Christmas? The answer is also not allowed, traditional festivals and foreign festivals are not allowed, so what festivals did the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom celebrate?
According to the Taiping calendar, there are a total of six such festivals, the thirteenth ascension day of the first month, to commemorate the ascension of Jesus who was crucified on the cross. At the beginning of February, the second day of the festival is commemorated to commemorate Hong Xiuquan's "slaying the snake demon to benefit the people", this festival is equivalent to the Spring Festival in the Tianping Heavenly Kingdom, very grand, every second day of the first two days of February, the entire Tianjing City is illuminated, and Hong Xiuquan will also treat the soldiers in a big way.
