Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council: The DPP authorities' vain attempt to rely on external forces to seek "independence" will inevitably lead to failure

author:International Online

Today (19 July), Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, answered a reporter's question.

Q: Recently, the Slovenian Prime Minister made erroneous remarks on Taiwan-related issues, calling Taiwan a "democratic country," saying that Taiwan has joined the World Health Organization, expressing support for Lithuania's Taiwan-related practices, and is promoting the establishment of "mutual representative offices" with Taiwan. Any comments on this?

A: The remarks of relevant politicians in Slovenia ignore the facts and confuse the public opinion. He should be clear about what the one-China principle is, and he should read the original text of the Sino-Sri Lankan Joint Communique carefully, that is, the Slovak side reiterated that it will continue to adhere to the principled stand of one China, recognizing that there is only one China in the world, that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and that the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the entire Chinese people. The position of the Republic of Slovenia on non-official dealings and establishment of any official relations with Taiwan remains unchanged. We urge the Government of Slovenia to abide by its serious commitments on Taiwan-related issues with practical actions and to prudently and properly handle Taiwan-related issues. The DPP authorities have used all kinds of tricks to co-opt and infiltrate politicians of relevant countries in a vain attempt to rely on external forces to seek "independence."
