U.S. authoritative media: the reliability of electric vehicles is not as good as that of fuel vehicles, because car companies are too young

In the era of automobile transformation to electrification, electric vehicles have also become the focus of the global automobile market, but compared with fuel vehicles with a century-old history, electric vehicles are still "rising stars", and the difference in quality and reliability between the two is also concerned by current consumers.

Recently, the latest report of the authoritative media "Consumer Report" in the United States shows that compared with fuel vehicles, the incidence of problems in electric vehicles is significantly higher in similar products.

According to the report, the electric vehicle companies on the market are either new car-making forces that have never built cars before (such as Tesla, Lucid and Rivian in the United States and Xiaopeng, Weilai, Ideal and other car companies in China), or traditional car manufacturers (such as Toyota, Volkswagen, General Motors, etc.) that have recently developed their first electric vehicles.

Regardless of the production method, because it is not familiar with the automobile manufacturing process or unfamiliar with the characteristics of electric vehicles, it is easy to affect the quality and reliability of electric vehicles, which is why Consumer Reports believes that electric vehicles have more problems than fuel vehicles.

The report also said that the probability of electric vehicles having problems in on-board electronics, noise, liquid leakage, power equipment, air conditioning systems, drive systems and body paint surfaces is very high.

Recent spontaneous combustion of the Chevrolet Bolt, as well as Tesla's "famous" quality problems, have caused damage to the quality of electric vehicles.

Ultimately, these problems stem from car companies, which are not so well understood in terms of improving the reliability of electric vehicles. Especially like Tesla, the first thing to do is to mass-produce electric vehicles at the same time, improve the reliability of vehicles.

Traditional car companies need to understand the particularity of electric vehicles, software configuration optimization and other issues, which are unfamiliar areas of traditional car companies.

The good news, though, is that new cars on the market in the U.S. in 2021 will show better reliability overall, both in electric vehicles and fuel vehicles. But even so, electric vehicles are still considered less reliable than fuel vehicles.
