In the blink of an eye, more than half a century has passed, and a movie, "Chosin Lake", has unveiled the scars of history again, and in reality, in addition to the soldiers who charged into the battlefield, there were many medical team members who silently supported in the rear.
According to relevant information, during the Period of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Shanghai Municipality successively dispatched 14 medical teams, including 746 medical personnel, in batches, to the FRONT LINE of the DPRK and various parts of the northeast by train at the Shanghai North Railway Station. After these medical teams in Shanghai arrived in the northeast, the central government had a consideration, these medical personnel are very valuable, and they are not at ease to let them cross the river, so they arrange to build a rear hospital in the territory of the three eastern provinces.
A few days ago (October 10), my mother received a screenshot from Dr. Gu Yueming, an old colleague of the former Gutian Hospital, who was 93 years old and had a lot of emotions, this is a list of guangci hospitals, which is now Ruijin Hospital, to participate in the second batch of medical teams in Shanghai to resist US aggression and aid Korea, and her name "Xu Shifen" is prominently listed in the lower left corner of the photo. Seeing this precious screenshot, the past of 71 years ago came to her mind little by little.
At the behest of the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, in July 1951, Guangci Hospital set up the second batch of medical teams to resist the United States and aid Korea, with Nie Chuanxian of the Ophthalmology Department as the captain, and more than 20 medical personnel such as Surgical Shi Jixiang, Lin Yanzhen, Internal Medicine Gong Lansheng, Chen Jialun and so on signed up to participate in the war.
To fight with americans armed to the teeth, and the cruelty of the war is unprecedented, it is impossible to say that there is no slightest concern! But when the country is in trouble, there is a country to have a home, the mother they still have no hesitation to actively sign up for the war, where there are undead people in the war, she gave her remaining clothes to others, is ready to be "glorious".
In August and September of the same year, the team gathered in front of the Old Red Building of Aurora Medical College (now the West Courtyard of jiaotong University School of Medicine) and held a grand farewell ceremony in the Great Hall (which has been demolished due to the construction of the North and South Viaducts). Because my grandparents died early, when the team set off, only my aunt went to bid farewell, and the medical team bid farewell to relatives and friends, leaving an extremely precious photo in the song of "majestic, angry, crossing the Yalu River, safeguarding peace, defending the country, that is, protecting the hometown..."

The medical team members rushed by train to the banks of the Yalu River and stationed in an extremely simple military hospital near Tonghua in Liaodong Province ( in present-day Jilin Province ) with only the simplest and most primitive medical equipment; the medical team members were divided into two groups of men and women, sleeping in two rooms, day and night, receiving wounded and sick volunteers transferred from the front line at any time, and all frostbite, hand and foot disabilities that needed to be amputated or bullets removed from the body were handled by the surgical medical team. The mother was assigned to the internal medicine team led by Dr. Gong Lansheng, responsible for dealing with the injured and sick such as high fever, coma, and mental disorders. The seriously wounded were transferred to the Second Army Hospital of Qiqihar for treatment, and the light wounded were bandaged on the spot and recovered and returned to the battlefield.
Many wounded and sick volunteers were sent to the hospital wearing very thin clothes, not even cotton coats, in winter and spring, the Erdaojiang area was cold and frozen, the temperature was as low as minus 15 degrees Celsius or even lower, the cold wind of six or seven grades in the sky was whining, in this harsh environment where the water was frozen, the frostbitten soldiers had symptoms of numbness and blackened skin, the flesh and blood endured the unimaginable hunger and cold of ordinary people, and many soldiers with severe frostbite were sent to surgery and had to be amputated. In the internal medicine ward, some soldiers were feverish and even confused, and their mouths were still murmuring: Rush! Come on!...... Looking at these disabled young soldiers, the mother had a heavy heart, deeply worried, worried and responsible, silently feeding the soldiers medicine, rehydration, water, and food...

At that time, the food of the medical team was steamed buns with pickles and dried radish, there was no table, everyone took turns to stand and eat in a hurry, even so, compared to the front-line officers and soldiers do not know how many times better!
In the wartime, the hospital is surrounded by deserted people, few people do farm work or other activities, here is a distance from the Yalu River, relatively safe, occasionally can hear the faint sound of air defense sirens, gunshots, doctors and nurses have long been themselves and the front line fighters into one, day and night to treat and care for the wounded volunteer soldiers.
The medical team members rotated regularly, and in more than half a year of medical team work, due to the meticulous treatment and care of the team members, not a single wounded or sick person in the mother's department died due to medical delays, which made the mother extremely proud. The old photographs and the commemorative medal for the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea that have always been cherished are the most beautiful medals of the medical team members participating in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea at that time, and they have enabled our descendants to profoundly understand the difficulties of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea and defend the country in those years, and the peaceful environment was not easy to come by.

After the second batch of medical teams to resist US aggression and aid Korea returned to Shanghai, my mother returned to the hospital again. Soon, the organization took her as a transfer student and sent her to the medical department of Shanghai Second Medical College for further study; after completing her studies in 1959, she responded to the party's call to go to the most difficult place and assigned her to work at the Xinjiang Medical College in Urumqi, northwest of the motherland.
In the early 1970s, in response to the state's call to "prepare for war and prepare for war", my father went to work at Gutian Hospital in Anhui's Anhui Nanshan District with the medical staff of Shanghai Renji Hospital to support the construction of the small third line in the rear of Shanghai, and my mother was also transferred from Xinjiang to the nanshan district of Anhui province in 1970 to join my father to participate in the construction of the small third line; as the international situation gradually eased, the state made major adjustments to the construction of the small third line, and my mother returned to Shanghai in 1984 and arranged to work in Shanghai Renji Hospital, and retired honorably in 1989.

Her mother was low-key and never mentioned to others her experience of participating in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, she said, think of the volunteer soldiers who paid such a big price on the battlefield and suffered such a big sacrifice! Compared with those warriors who died in battle and buried in foreign countries, I was lucky to come back alive. Therefore, she rarely opens the door of memories, and does not want to touch those poignant past events! Mothers often teach our children not to forget history and not to forget the heroes, and to work well to serve the motherland. Our generation should inherit the glorious tradition, be angry and strong, and like our predecessors, do not forget the original intention to forge ahead.
71 years ago, during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, the volunteer army built a great wall of steel with its flesh and blood, and defended the motherland's rivers and mountains with iron bones, which won us a peaceful environment for decades. 71 years later, the mountains and rivers are unharmed, the people are healthy, and the most lovely people in that group, many of whom have been buried underground, but their heroic image and glorious deeds will always exist in the world, the motherland will not forget, the people will not forget, we will not forget, thank you to all those who sacrificed their lives for the country and all those heroes who bravely participated in the war!
