With his faith in Lei Feng, Ye Ruling aided Tibet for 31 years, and many years of surgery caused him to suffer from varicose veins and blood vessels lying on his left arm like a centipede, and the lack of oxygen on the plateau caused his already poor hearing to be a few points worse. He once had the opportunity to stay in Shanghai to work, but he refused, "If I don't return to Tibet after completing my studies, I won't be able to live in my heart for the rest of my life." ”
He traveled through more than half of Tibet's more than 70 counties in a medical car or on horseback, and once dragged his horse's tail over a high mountain of more than 6,000 meters to deliver pregnant women in small counties.
Under the construction of Ye Ruling and a batch of doctors aiding Tibet, in 1998, the People's Hospital of the Tibet Autonomous Region became the only tertiary first-class hospital in Tibet, with plateau characteristics and medical, health care, prevention, teaching and other functions.
When he retired to Beijing in 2000, he refused high-paying offers from many hospitals, stayed in the community, and established the "Ye Ruling Love Cottage" to volunteer to see community residents. The home phone became the "hotline" of the community.
There was a patient who had been unsuccessful in seeking a doctor for two years, and he found Ye Ruling with the mentality of trying it out. He heard an abnormal vascular murmur in the patient's abdomen and told the patient to go to the hospital to do an abdominal CT. The examination found that there was a huge aneurysm on his abdominal aorta, which could rupture at any time, and it would be life-threatening if he did not operate in time.
He also preached nearly 500 times in schools, institutions, factories and mines, encouraging young people to listen to the party and follow the party. Under his influence, more than a dozen college students have worked in Tibet and Xinjiang after graduation.
In 2008, Ye Ruling participated in the Beijing Summer Olympic Games as a volunteer, and this year, he became a city volunteer for the Winter Olympics and became a "double Olympic volunteer".
After the award ceremony, Ye Ruling told the Beijing News reporter: "Participating in this event today, I feel that the three criteria I require myself are very important, and I must have an example, faith and responsibility. The 'Ye Ruling Love Cottage' will continue to be open, and the free clinic will continue to be done.
