Regarding the burial of living people, the earliest can be traced back to the Yin Shang period; after the unification of the Six Kingdoms by the Qin, there were again large-scale sensational birth and martyrdom incidents; and in the Ming Dynasty, the practice of women's burial was once again rekindled. Not all of these martyred living people were put into the tomb after they were killed, and many of them were buried in the tomb when they were alive.
How long will a living person live when he is buried in a tomb? In the first case, when buried, he was killed by the organ in the tomb and died on the spot; in the second case, even if he was not killed at that time, the tomb was dark, there was no oxygen, no food, no water, and the fear in his heart, he generally did not live for three days.
1. The Tomb of the Zhou You King of The Martyrdom

As for the tomb of the King of Zhou You, it can be said that there are many opinions, and there is no consensus, according to the "Records of the Two Capitals Daoli": "The tomb is three feet high, and the Wednesday is a hundred steps", whether this is the case, archaeologists have not yet determined, and further investigation is needed.
In the "Xijing Miscellaneous Records" recorded: during the Western Han Dynasty, Liu Go, the king of Guangchuan (a work of Liu To Disease), was born to play, and during a play, he accidentally excavated the tomb of The King of Zhou You, which was very tall, first a high tomb door, after entering the door, only to see that the ground was a layer of chalk soil that was more than one inch thick, and the chalk soil was dug down again, it was a layer of mica stone, and the mica stone was dug down again, and there were more than a hundred corpses.
These more than a hundred corpses were leaning against each other, resting on pillows, some sitting, some lying, some standing, crisscrossing each other, and their clothes were all good, not decaying. However, among these corpses, basically more than a hundred were female corpses, only one was a male corpse, and these more than a hundred women were concubines and palace women who were martyred for King Zhou You.
There is doubt that King Zhou Youwang died in a hurry, and he did not have time to buy these for himself, nor did he have the opportunity to explain these things, so it was speculated that these should not be his own request. That was his son's idea, and these hundreds of beauties were also considered to be sons who knew his father's preferences and threw themselves into his favor.
2. The Mausoleum of the First Emperor of Qin, who was brutally martyred
Before his death, Qin Shi Huang not only sought the method of immortality, but also thought of repairing the gorgeous mausoleum for himself, and spent more than ten years sending hundreds of thousands of craftsmen to build the huge tomb of the first emperor of Lishan Mountain. According to the record: "The height of the grave is more than fifty zhang, and the week is more than five miles", which is converted into a unit of rice, which is now more than 150 meters high and more than 2500 meters in circumference.
After the death of Qin Shi Huang, the body was transported back to the capital Xianyang, and Hu Hai of Qin II ordered that concubines without heirs should be buried for the former emperor. Three thousand harem beauties died from him, and few concubines survived. The harem was full of living life, and the right to life and death was actually held by the dead emperor.
What is even more shocking is that in the mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, in addition to the harem concubines and palace women, there are also a group of craftsmen who built mausoleums who have also become the objects of martyrdom of Qin Shi Huang. According to the "History of the First Emperor of Qin", "the burial has been laid down, or the craftsman is the machine." Therefore, the number of concubines and craftsmen who were martyred this time was even as high as "tens of thousands".
Third, the martyrdom system has resurged
Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, was about to die when he revived the martyrdom system, and when he was about to die, he issued a dying decree "To rebuke the concubines for martyrdom", as a punishment, to bury the concubines for him, and it was this terrible order that revived the tragic system of martyrdom of the living.
After Zhu Yuanzhang's death, a total of 46 concubines and palace women were buried in his mausoleum, and more than a dozen palace women were martyred. Cruelly, most of these martyrs were the emperor's favorite concubines, and in order to keep their good looks from decaying, they even poured mercury into the bodies of some outstanding beauties.
There is such a record in the history of the wilderness: Zhu Yuanzhang made a trance array on the day of his burial, and among the thirteen city gates, each door had a coffin sent out, which could make everyone dizzy, some people thought that this was pure rumors, some people thought that this was indeed justified, on the one hand, to confuse people's sight and prevent the people from stealing the tomb; on the other hand, it was filled with buried concubines and palace women.
According to the Biography of the Later Concubines of the Ming Dynasty, after the completion of the burial ceremony, in order to express their gratitude to these concubines and women, their families would receive rich rewards from the imperial court, either promoted to knighthood or given gold and silver jewelry. These martyred women were uniformly called Chaotiannu, and their families were called Chaotiannu.
4. The time of survival of the martyrdom
According to the normal burial procedure, after the emperor enters the tomb, the door of the tomb will be closed immediately, and many organs will be set up inside to prevent the martyrs from escaping. Therefore, if someone wants to escape, they will trigger the trap, and they will be directly killed by the mechanism, and there is basically no possibility of successfully running out of the tomb.
How long can a martyr live in a tomb? Although this problem has not been recorded in detail in history, according to current knowledge, it can be speculated that after closing the door of the tomb, there was no light at all, it was pitch black, nothing could be seen, only faint breathing could be heard.
Imagine that the inside of the tomb is sealed, the oxygen is limited, the air circulation is poor, a group of people need to breathe in the tomb, and it will not take long to consume the oxygen in the tomb, at this time the tomb is replaced by carbon dioxide, and people begin to gradually appear hypoxic reaction. Next, there is less and less oxygen, more and more carbon dioxide, and people are about to start suffocating.
However, people have the instinct to survive, at the beginning may continue to look for food, water, and when they can eat, they will shift their attention to human flesh, and their companions will begin to kill each other, relying on eating human flesh and drinking human blood to survive, and finally when there is only one person left, I am afraid that I can only wait quietly for death.
If the living are in a closed mausoleum, if the air mobility is poor, they can only live for one or two days at most, even if the air mobility is good, living for three or four days is an upper limit. There have been many studies that confirm that the length of time a martyr can live is closely related to the number of people buried.
The number of martyrs is generally less than 20, and it is almost possible to survive the third day in the tomb; if the number of people is between 20 and 60, it is generally not more than three days; and if the total number of people exceeds 60, it is generally impossible to survive even one day.
