Zhang Wenrong, the most cattle prisoner of war: False surrender became a US military agent, and parachuted after blowing up the US transport plane in the air

As a war, the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea will inevitably produce casualties and, still more, take prisoners.

According to available data, after the end of the war, more than 7,100 of the 21,700 captured volunteers returned to their homeland, while the remaining 14,000 went to Taiwan or neutral countries.

What is even less well known is that the US military has also set up an intelligence service, through coercion and inducement, some prisoners of war have been trained as US military operatives, and then thrown into the rear of the battlefield to engage in intelligence activities. And the protagonist of our article today, Zhang Wenrong, is one of them.

Born in 1926 in Liaozhong County, Liaoning Province, Zhang Wenrong was admitted to the Communications Department of Chengdu Army School in 1948, becoming one of the last Huangpu students. In December 1949, Zhang Wenrong revolted under the leadership of principal Li Yongzhong and joined the People's Liberation Army. During the Korean War, he worked as a radio operator at the headquarters of the 180th Division, and in the fifth battle, Zhang Wenrong was unfortunately captured, and after a brief interrogation by the American army on the front line, he was sent to a prisoner-of-war camp in the rear.

In the POW camps in the rear of the U.S. army, there were many agents from Taiwan. When they discovered Zhang Wenrong's experience as Huangpusheng, they tried their best to woo him, calling him a "brother", and the US military also regarded him as a key development target for agents of the Intelligence Service.

Zhang Wenrong understood that the prisoners of war at that time were either killed or sent to Taiwan, and that this was his only chance to return to the volunteer army.

So Zhang Wenrong superficially pretended to agree, participated in the training of the Intelligence Service, and at the same time he also had the experience of studying in the Communications Section of the Military Academy, with the specialty of newspaper service, and soon the US military recruited him into the Intelligence Section. Zhang Wenrong was then sent to a secret service school in Tokyo, Japan for training. As soon as they arrived in Tokyo, the U.S. side forced them to fill out a secret agent registration form. Immediately after that, the US side conducted two months of training for them, including light weapons shooting, intelligence reconnaissance, explosive assassination, communications, parachuting and other subjects. After the Japanese training, they were sent to Seoul for further training, preparing to seek opportunities to send to the rear of the volunteer army to carry out espionage and sabotage activities.

In February 1952, Zhang Wenrong and five other trained agents were selected to go to the rear of the Volunteer Army to collect intelligence and sabotage. On February 18, Zhang Wenrong and six other operatives and 11 U.S. troops boarded the C-46 transport plane, all dressed in volunteer costumes for camouflage, and each equipped with maps, radios, rifles, and parachutes.

Before boarding the plane, Zhang Wenrong quietly took two grenades and hid them in his clothes.

When the plane flew over the destination, Tieyuan, the crew began to prepare for the parachute, and Zhang Wenrong was arranged for the first skydive.

Taking advantage of the dim lighting in the cabin, he quietly felt for the grenade, pulled out the safety ring and held it in his hand. When the skydiving lights came on, Zhang Wenrong threw two grenades into it the moment he jumped out of the cabin.

With two loud noises, the cabin had been blown up, and the American troops inside and five other agents were killed. The C-46 transport plane dragged the flames downwards, and only Sergeant Harris, who was also in the hatch at the time, found that the situation was not right and immediately followed the parachute and survived. In the end, Harrison and Zhang Wenrong landed in the mountains of Tieyuan one after the other.

After Zhang Wenrong landed, because of the luminous watch equipped for him by the US military, he saw that the time was 2:40 a.m. He immediately went to look for the volunteer troops, and after finding the mountain search unit, he immediately explained the situation.

Subsequently, the mountain search force also captured Sergeant Harris on the ground, and in the subsequent interrogation, Sergeant Harris also proved that Zhang Wenrong's statement was true.

However, at that time, the prisoner was a more sensitive topic, and Zhang Wenrong's fake surrender situation was also relatively special, except harrison no one could prove his situation, so the volunteer army did not give him a commendation, and then sent him back to China for further investigation.

Until 1958, the relevant departments recognized his performance and rewarded him with a sum of money, but his military rank and reputation were not restored, and for a long time, Zhang Wenrong was in a snubbed environment.

It was not until June 2000 that his military rank and reputation were restored, and by this time, three months had passed since the death of Mr. Zhang Wenrong.

Zhang Wenrong's life is a hero's life, a tragic and magnificent life, brave and resourceful and bear the burden of humiliation, pay tribute to the hero!
