Bao Zheng's death was very sudden, even a moment ago when he was in the Privy Council, and then suddenly fell ill. And he didn't even have a chance to be treated, and he died directly. So how did Bao Zheng die? Was someone poisoned, or was someone assassinated? Or is it just a sudden emergency?
This has always been an unsolved mystery, until the excavation of Bao Zheng's tomb, all this was truly solved. After all, Bao Zheng's reputation in the folk at that time was very good, so after the Bao Zheng tomb was destroyed in the Southern Song Dynasty, the people built dozens of large and small crown tombs for Bao Zheng.
Therefore, most of the existing Bao Zheng tombs are suspicious tombs, but the archaeological team has excavated many such tombs. It was not until a mausoleum was excavated in a small village around Hefei that it was determined that the mausoleum should be the real mausoleum of Bao Zheng. This conclusion was determined layer by layer, first of all, the tomb contains a bao zheng epitaph, and it is more than 3,000 words long.
Secondly, this mausoleum is consistent with the historical records, bao zheng tomb was destroyed by the Jin army at the end of the Southern Song Dynasty, not only stole the tomb artifacts, but also scattered the bones of Bao Zheng and his wife. After careful screening in this tomb, only 35 complete skeletons remained in the bones belonging to Bao Zheng.
The excavation of these skeletons also unveiled the mystery of Bao Zheng's death, that is, poisoning to death. There is a large amount of mercury residue in the skeleton of Bao Zheng, which means that Bao Zheng is most likely to die of mercury poisoning. At that time, there were no similar cases in the imperial palace of the Southern Song Dynasty, which means that it is most likely to be poisoned.
And the people who poisoned Bao Zheng can be said to be innumerable, and it can even be said that from the princes and nobles to the peddlers and pawns, there is a possibility of killing Bao Zheng. After all, at that time, the entire Southern Song Dynasty was immersed in a kind of virtual dream, and only Bao Zheng was awake, and even separated these people from this beautiful dream.
But although Bao Zheng's approach is correct in the long run, is this really what the people of the Southern Song Dynasty wanted? Therefore, the existence of Bao Zheng became a thorn in the eyes of almost everyone at that time, and it could only be eradicated in the end. So is it possible that he was killed by the emperor? It is possible, but it is not very likely. After all, What Bao Zheng did was consistent with the interests of the emperor, so it was more beneficial for the emperor to leave Bao Zheng.
