In 1969, "Here the Dawn Is Quiet" was published in the Soviet magazine "Youth", which caused a great sensation among Soviet readers.

In 1972, the novella "Encountered in the Streets" was brought to the screen by director S. Rostocki and achieved worldwide success. The film won the 1973 Venice International Film Festival Commemorative Award, an Oscar nomination and an All-Soviet Film Festival Grand Prix. Vasiliev's fame grew with the success of the novel, and the original novel became more sought after, regarded as a classic in the history of world literature.

Vasiliev himself won the first prize of the All-Soviet Children's Literature award and the Soviet State Prize for this work in 1975, and the novel was designated as an extracurricular reading for all-Soviet secondary school students, and it was translated into many languages and published one after another. The novel later won the Lenin Prize for Literature in 1975

It was made into a film by Soviet director Rostocky in the 1970s, and the theme of humanity in war caused a sensation around the world. The film won several international awards, including the 1972 Venice Film Festival Memorial Award.

The film entered China in the 80s. Since then, the drama of the same name has also been performed in China many times.

In 2005, when commemorating the 60th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, CCTV adapted a 19-episode TV series based on Vasiliev's novella of the same name, "Here the Dawn Is Quiet"

The famous trench true writer Vasiliev died in 2013.
