According to the news, in 2021, 5 professors such as Wang Hongjian of the Academy of Fine Arts, Zhang Guogang of the School of Humanities, Zhang Mingkai of the Law School, Chen Guoqing of the School of Economics and Management, and Lu Xiaobo of the Academy of Fine Arts (in order of surname strokes) were selected as the second batch of senior professors of liberal arts at Tsinghua University.

At present, the academician system in the mainland is only set up in science, engineering, agriculture, medicine and other disciplines, while the field of humanities and social sciences has not had an academic title of comparable status and influence. In 2003, the Ministry of Education launched the implementation of the "Philosophy and Social Science Prosperity Plan for Colleges and Universities", proposing to "encourage colleges and universities to establish senior professorships in philosophy and social sciences from a practical point of view, and give corresponding treatment to academicians of natural sciences and engineering sciences".
