The woman, Danielle Shapiro, began to have severe pain in her stomach after overeating, and after being taken to a hospital emergency room, she was diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease, commonly known as acid reflux.

Shapiro shared the story on the short video platform TikTok, where she told netizens about her experience while she was infused in the hospital. The video went viral, with more than 11.3 million views.

"I'm a huge fan of sushi, and sometimes I eat it several times a month." Shapiro said she had also planned to go to Japan with friends for an authentic sushi meal. "We're all looking forward to the 'all-you-can-eat sushi experience.'"

She added: "Our dinner lasted about two hours because we were so full that we had to rest several times in between." She ordered miso soup, four Japanese fried dumplings and popcorn, followed by 32 sushi and one edamame.

Shapiro said: "We ate too much and had to sit in the car for about 30 minutes before driving home. Because of eating those sushi, my stomach felt hard. ”

She went to her boyfriend's house and hoped to get better after a good night's sleep. "My stomach hurt badly that night, but I didn't think much about it because I had just had a big meal. I'm not an early riser, so when I woke up around 6am the next morning, I knew something was wrong. ”

Shapiro added, "My stomach and chest ached violently and it was difficult to breathe deeply. Her boyfriend and grandmother reportedly drove her to the hospital, where she was eventually diagnosed with acid reflux and received medication to reduce pain.

Hospitals say specific symptoms of acid reflux include heartburn, chest pain, reflux of food or acid fluid, and difficulty swallowing, which can occur to almost anyone, with about 60 million Americans experiencing acid reflux symptoms every month, and researchers estimating that about 20 percent of Americans suffer from acid reflux disease.

After receiving treatment, it took Shapiro a few days to return to normal.

Despite this not-so-pleasant experience, she said she wouldn't give up on her favorite food. "I'm sure I'll eat sushi again!" This experience didn't ruin my love of sushi or the experience of eating sushi. But I did learn the lesson, and next time I need to listen to my body and slow down. She concluded.
