Seeing that it is almost the New Year, the first festival after the end of the year is the fifteenth Lantern Festival of the first month, in the Lantern Festival, in addition to watching the lanterns, there is also a welfare that foodies love, that is, eating tangyuan, some places are also called Lantern Festival, in fact, the reason for this difference is actually related to a figure in the Republic of China period, this person is Yuan Shikai.
Yuan Shikai was born in a large family in Xiangcheng, Henan, failed two imperial examinations in the early years, and later originated in Korea, actively participated in the training of the new army after returning to China, but he informed Empress Dowager Cixi's party to protect himself when he changed the law, and later his position soared, actively promoting modernization reform during the New Deal at the end of the Qing Dynasty, and then we all know the development, he forced Puyi to abdicate during the Xinhai Revolution, and thus became the provisional president of the Republic of China, and later became the president of the Republic of China.
But these still could not satisfy Yuan Shikai, he still had an emperor dream in his heart, so, two years later, he announced that he was emperor, changed the name of the country to the Chinese Empire, and built Yuan Hongxian. Although only 83 days after the emperor, he was ousted by opposition from all sides, but his influence on some folk affairs was preserved, including the lantern changing to Tangyuan.
Before Yuan Shikai officially ascended the throne as emperor, the Metropolitan Police Department in Beijing at that time informed the whole city that all the people who sold lanterns should change the name of "Lantern" to "Tangyuan", and change the sign of the previous shop from "Lantern" to "Tangyuan" to make the citizens change their mouths. The reason for issuing this order was because Yuan Shikai's cronies at that time believed that "Lantern" and "Yuan Que" were pronounced the same, which was very unlucky for Yuan Shikai, the new emperor who was about to ascend the throne, so they suggested that the "Lantern" be renamed "Tang Yuan".
So "Lantern" became "Tang Yuan", which still has these two different names today, but Yuan Shikai is really like the word "Yuan Que" in the harmonic sound of "Lantern", and he was ousted from power after only 83 days as emperor, and disappeared into the torrent of history with the change of events.
