The luckiest regimental-level cadre was still in charge of the warehouse the day before the big award, and the next day he became the founding major general

In the autumn of 1955, our army held its first major award, and this time it produced more than a thousand founding generals, including 798 major generals. Many of these people are full-division-level cadres, while others are at the paramilitary and regular ranks. For example, Zhong Wei, who was the commander of the column during the Liberation War, and Fu Chongbi, the commander of the 63rd Army of the Volunteer Army, fought the famous Tieyuan Blockade Battle, and in terms of their seniority and combat achievements, it is not too much to be awarded a lieutenant general, but in the end they were all awarded the rank of major general.

However, there was one person who was an exception, he was only a regimental cadre, he was still in charge of the warehouse the day before the big award, and the next day he became the founding major general, and he became the luckiest regimental cadre, and this person was the founding major general Sulu. Sulu is a native of Liuyang, Hunan, and his family has only a few acres of thin fields, and the annual harvest can only barely maintain food and clothing. Despite the tight days, his father gritted his teeth and sent Sulu to the school. After a few years of private schooling, the family could not provide any more, so Sulu had to drop out of school and go home to help his parents.

However, the income from farming was very limited after all, and Sulu began to work when he was a little older, but at that time, it was a warlord melee, and the people did not have a good life. As a result, Sulu wandered around for several years without making any money, during which time he was exposed to revolutionary ideas, and in July 1927, Sulu resolutely joined the Red Army. He started as a soldier and accumulated military achievements over the years, rising to battalion commander. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Sulu first served in the Shanxi Death Column, and later served as the commander of the First Military Subdistrict of the Taiyue Military Region.

After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Sulu participated in the War of Liberation and served as deputy division commander under Xu Shuai. At the end of June 1948, the Battle of Jinzhong began, under the exquisite command of Xu Shuai, Zhao Chengshou's group suffered heavy losses, in order to avoid the fate of being completely annihilated, he led his troops to flee north along the railway line in a hurry, preparing to retreat to Taiyuan and hold firm. If zhao chengshou's clique successfully escapes, it will be more difficult for our army to attack Taiyuan in the future. In order to block the enemy's escape route, the superior entrusted the task of blocking the enemy to Sulu and ordered him to lead the 172nd Regiment to hold on to Dongcun.

Zhao Chengshou

Dongcun is located on the east side of the railway seven kilometers north of Taigu County, which is the throat point leading to Taiyuan, and as long as our army holds Dongcun, it can completely cut off the retreat of Zhao Chengshou's clique. After accepting the task, Sulu led his troops to set off in the rain, and after arriving at Dong Village, he first blew up the railway bridge, so that the enemy army could not escape by car. Sulu then ordered the warriors to urgently construct fortifications and built many bunkers and artillery holes. At about 9:00 a.m. on July 3, the fleeing enemy arrived at Dongcun, found that the railway bridge had been bombed, and immediately launched a strong attack on the position of the 172nd Regiment with the strength of several regiments.

In order to escape, the enemy used more than 70 artillery pieces and many ironclad vehicles to cover the infantry to launch a group charge, and after being repeatedly repelled by our army, Zhao Chengshou sent the Tenth General Brigade up. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Yan Xishan selected more than 1,600 people from the Japanese army originally stationed in Shanxi to form the Shanxi Escort Road Army. After the outbreak of the Liberation War, this Japanese army unit was renamed the Provisional Independent Tenth General Brigade, and Yuan Quanxin, the former commander of the 14th Brigade of the Japanese Army invading China, served as the commander of the brigade.

Yan Xishan

During the Battle of Jinzhong, Yan Xishan and Zhao Chengshou used the 10th General Corps as a trump card. At this time, it had been more than 9 years since the victory of the War of Resistance, and the Japanese army was still running rampant on Chinese soil, Xu Shuai was very angry about this, and commanded the troops to annihilate most of this Japanese army. At this time, in order to escape, Zhao Chengshou took out the 10th General Brigade, which had been severely damaged, in a vain attempt to rely on this group of Japanese troops to break through the blocking position of the 172nd Regiment. Sulu and the warriors saw that the Japanese were still fierce at this time, and one by one they were furious and fought particularly bravely, repelling several enemy charges in succession and firmly holding their positions.

Zhao Chengshou saw that he could not attack the Position of Dongcun, so he had to lead his troops to escape in a detour, and was eventually captured, and the Japanese troops in the Tenth General Brigade were also completely annihilated, and Yuan Quanxin committed suicide. Sulu became famous for the Battle of Dongcun, after which he participated in the Battle of Taiyuan, where he was heroically wounded and lost a right arm. After the founding of New China, Sulu became the commander of the Changzhi Military Subdistrict in Shanxi, a position he held until the spring of 1955.

Sulu

Working around the clock and relapsing from old injuries, Sulu's health was getting worse and worse, and in order to take care of his health, his superiors planned to let him leave his job to recuperate. However, Sulu was reluctant to leave the army and took the initiative to ask to go to the 495 warehouse to become the warehouse chief. This warehouse was only a regimental unit, and Sulu became a regimental cadre. But he did not care about this, and he worked conscientiously and conscientiously. When he was awarded the rank in 1955, Sulu could not be rated as a major general according to the rank at that time, but considering his seniority and military achievements, his superiors eventually awarded him the rank of major general, and he became the luckiest regimental cadre.
