European electric vehicle sales surpass diesel for the first time, accounting for more than 20% of sales in December

According to the Financial Times, it is estimated that in December 2021, sales of electric vehicles will surpass diesel vehicles for the first time. According to data, more than one-fifth of new cars sold in 18 European markets, including the United Kingdom, come from electric vehicles, while diesel cars account for less than 19% of sales.

In the European market, the reason why electric vehicles have been greatly developed is that in addition to the government subsidies for electric vehicles provided by various countries, they have also benefited from the implementation of more stringent emissions laws in these countries. Coupled with these two factors, the sales of electric vehicles in Europe are growing steadily.

It is understood that in December last year, a total of 176,000 electric vehicles were sold in Western Europe, a record high, an increase of 6% year-on-year. In the same month, diesel vehicles were sold in Western Europe at about 160,000 units. With the improvement of electric vehicle technology, infrastructure, etc., it is believed that the sales of electric vehicles will become higher and higher, and even exceed the sales of gasoline vehicles in the near future.
