Bilic talks about China's coaching experience: the right country and club, but at the wrong time

Live Bar January 17, 2017 Bilic, who has just stepped down as the manager of Beijing Guoan, was interviewed by Croatian media and talked about his experience of coaching China for a year, he admitted that the epidemic ruined his coaching plan, and said that he came to the "right country and club", but at the "wrong time". Excerpts from the interview are provided below.

Talk about work, why is the trip to China over in one year?

Bilic: "There's no unsolved mystery, I'd like to sum it up in one sentence – the right country and the right club, but at the wrong time. ”

Can you explain?

Bilic: "I signed a two-year contract and we got a clear and high-quality agreement, but unfortunately, in the end everything went in the opposite direction. ”

About the format and schedule of the Chinese Super League

Bilic: "The Chinese Super League has to serve the national team, and the national team is fighting for the World Cup. Considering the epidemic and the quarantine policy, they decided to keep the national team in a state of training together, and finally complete the final stage of the league in a short period of time. It's never normal to not play for two months and then play a lot of games in a short period of time just to get the schedule done, especially for coaches and players, who are under special pressure. ”

"The international team has actually been in the 'bubble' of isolation, and they can't go home for nearly half a year. When they got back to the club, they asked me if I could go home for a while and see my family. We have the most internationals, so it's easy to understand the pressure we're under in the league. ”

So why compete?

Bilic: "China is a big country, there are a lot of fans, and we are trying to stay motivated and competitive. Many clubs in the league are in crisis, with only three or four big companies paying their teams regular salaries, while others have to wait. ”

About the shortage of personnel in the team

Bilic: "The pandemic has brought us all together in the club, and it's not easy for the staff with me, especially when they haven't been paid for a long time. They were great and hardworking, and together we chose days away from home, a spirit that allowed us to persevere in the toughest and most complicated moments. But in the end we only finished fifth in the league, which is not a ranking that is in line with the club's ambitions. However, given the situation at the time, this was a good result. The club hasn't won a title in a decade and is always in the 3-6th place. Last year, Brazilian foreign aid could not return because of the epidemic, we naturally received the impact, Augusto and Fernando were originally temporarily absent, but in the end did not come back, and then Kim Hyun-jae went to Fenerbahce, Vieira, probably the best Number 10 player I have ever coached at a foreign club - also returned to Las Palmas. We only have Bakambu left in the end, and the boss is not ready for reinforcements this season because he is investing in the stadium, so..."
