IT House January 16 news that the new year has brought some bad news to Linux users and enthusiasts. According to a report released by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, Linux malware increased by 35% in 2021 compared to a year ago.

More specifically, the report reports a surge in Linux malware targeting a variety of Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile devices, some of which use IoT to generate massive botnet armies to perform distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.

IT House understands that the report adds that of the 35 percent malware growth mentioned earlier, about 22 percent is IoT-specific malware that belongs to three families:

XorDDoS

Mirai

Cinema

Compared to 2020, Mozi's malicious sample size increased by 900% in 2021, XorDDoS by 123%, and Miral's three variants, Sora, IZIH9, and Rekai, increased by 33%, 39%, and 83%, respectively, in 2021.
