The founding emperor of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the era name is "Jianwu", "Jianwu Zhongyuan".

Emperor Liu Xiu of the Han Dynasty was an enlightened monarch with great talent. He treated people with kindness, sincerity and trustworthiness, had military strategy, prohibited plunder, and won the hearts and minds of the people. After the pacification of Longxi, the only threat of the Eastern Han Dynasty was Gongsun Shu of Chuanshu. Previously, Liu Xiu's several attempts to persuade Gongsun Shu to surrender were all rejected, and Liu Xiu was furious and sent troops to attack Sichuan shu.

In March of the eleventh year of Jianwu (35), Sima Wuhan led 60,000 Jingzhou troops and 5,000 horses to join Cen Peng at Jingmen and march west along the Yangtze River into Shu; Lai She and Gai Yan led their armies from southwest Long to attack Hechi and Shu. On the southern front, Cen Peng's army traced west of the river, conquered Jingmen, captured Cheng Xun, and beheaded Renman, Tian Rong retreated to Jiangzhou (江州, in present-day Chongqing, Sichuan, on the north bank of the Beijialing River), and Peng Sui drove straight from the Three Gorges into Jiangguan. Along the way, the counties surrendered, and the army directly forced Jiangzhou.

In June of the eleventh year of Jianwu (35 years), the Beilu Laishe army defeated Wang Yuan and Huan'an' army, attacked Xiajian (northwest of present-day Chengxian County, Gansu), Hechi, and advanced into Shuzhong. Gongsun Shu sent people to assassinate Lai She, and Liu Xiu sent the general Liu Shang to continue to lead the army south. The city of Jiangzhou was fortified with grain and was not easy to break through, so Cen Peng left his troops to besiege it, and led his main force directly to Pad River (present-day Hechuan, Sichuan) and attack Pingqu (present-day hechuandong, Sichuan). Gongsun Shu ordered his generals Yan Cen , Lü Kun , Wang Yuan , and Gongsun Hui to lead an army to resist Guanghan ( 郡治张潼 , in present-day Sichuan ) and Zizhong ( present-day Ziyang , Sichuan ) , and sent Hou Dan to lead 20,000 men to resist Huangshi ( Hengshitan , northeast of present-day Fuling , Sichuan ) . Cen Peng left Zang Palace in Pingqu to resist the main force of the Shu army Yan Cen, and led his army back to Jiangzhou, traced the west of the river, attacked Huangshi, doubled the road and traveled more than 2,000 miles, detoured to the middle reaches of the Min River, occupied Wuyang (present-day Pengshandong, Sichuan), and attacked Guangdu (present-day south of Chengdu, Sichuan, on the northeast bank of the Min River). Gongsun Shu sent someone to assassinate Cen Peng. Liu Xiu ordered Wu Han to lead 30,000 troops to the front line and take over the command of Cen Peng.

In January of the twelfth year of Jianwu (36), Wu Han defeated the Shu army at Yuyinjin (yuyinjin, in present-day Meishan, Sichuan) and besieged Wuyang, annihilating more than 5,000 Shu reinforcements. In the west, it broke through guangdu and approached Chengdu. Wu Han was eager to win, and led 20,000 infantry to attack Chengdu, and the army was defeated. Wu Han then changed his tactics and took the night secret to retreat to the south bank of the Jinjiang River to join forces with the deputy general Liu Shang, and fought against the enemy, turning defeat into victory. After that, wu Han, based on Liu Xiu's tactics of exhaustion and re-attack, fought with the Shu army between Chengdu and Guangdu, annihilated a large number of living forces of Gongsun Shu, and approached the city of Chengdu. In November, Zang Gong conquered Fan (northwest of present-day Peng County, Sichuan), Pi (pi county, Sichuan), and Wu Hanhui and besieged Chengdu. Gongsun Shubu had no choice but to surrender. However, Liu Yu, the deputy general of Wu Han, did not intend to spare Gongsun Shu's army, and not only eliminated the surrendered soldiers, but also set fire to Chengdu on a large scale.

When this news reached the capital, The Guangwu Emperor Liu Xiu was greatly angered and issued a special edict condemning Liu Yu: "This city has surrendered, and there are tens of thousands of old women, children, and tens of thousands of people in the city. Ordinary people, even if they have a broken broom in their home, cherish it very much, but you do not care for the lives and property of your people like this! How could you be so cruel that you could bear to do such a thing? Subsequently, Liu Xiu removed Liu Yu from his post and severely criticized the main general Wu Han.
