When exactly this system began, modern people have no way of knowing, but at least it can be traced back to three or four thousand years ago, because archaeologists have found a large number of Shang Dynasty burial relics in the archaeological process.
Under the ancient centralized system, the upper centralizers had supreme power, they enjoyed a life without troubles, eating and wearing, beautiful women, and countless slaves when they were alive, because they had too many things, they would be more afraid of becoming nothing after death, and compared with modern people, the ancient people were more superstitious, they believed that there would be souls after death, and they believed that after death they would continue to live in another space, that is, hades. So everything that belongs to them in the Yang World, such as gold and silver jewelry, wives and concubines, slaves, etc., they want to take it to the world after death and continue to enjoy it all.
At that time, there were many items used as funerals, and the most cruel was the burial of the living. Moreover, under the feudal system at that time, the status of men and women was very unequal, so the martyrs were basically women, and only a few men would become martyrs, and no matter who they had no choice, they could only be forced to become funerals.
We often see this kind of plot in TV dramas, after the emperor dies, his concubines have to go to the funeral, in the play is generally hanging or drinking poisonous wine, and the concubines will also calmly die. But in reality, most people are afraid of death, there are very few people who are sincerely willing to be martyred, and many people may not have seen the person they want to be martyred for, but under the oppression of power, they are not willing to accompany the funeral and have no way to resist, and can only become a martyr under the manipulation of fate.
As the women of the burial, the way to die is very cruel, the simple point is to bury them alive directly, and the most painful way is that those who ask to go to the burial will be locked up together, prepare a cup of tea that is very much like sleeping pills for each of them, and when they finish drinking and falling asleep, there will be eunuchs who will cut a piece directly on their heads, pour the prepared mercury directly from the place where they were cut, wait until the mercury is all poured in, and then sew the head with needles and threads, and when all this is done, These people can be sent to the cemetery to be buried.
It sounds like nothing, after all, there will be a cup of 'sleeping pills'' first, but in ancient times, that kind of 'sleeping pills'' would not have the function of an anesthetic, so it may be that when the first knife is cut, those poor women will wake up, but under extreme pain, they cannot escape, and can only endure until death comes. The reason why this method is adopted is because the ancients believed that if they were buried directly while they were alive, or poured mercury into the body, they could keep their faces unchanged and allow the dead rulers to enjoy the best in another world.
This terrible system was gradually abolished during the Qin and Han dynasties, and was directly abolished during the Han Dynasty. However, by the time of Zhu Yuanzhang, this cruel system began to rise again, partly because Zhu Yuanzhang said that "'Yuan rules are clear with you'", and the Yuan Dynasty implemented a martyrdom system, on the other hand, the adult prince of the Ming Dynasty died unexpectedly, so that the harem would not interfere in politics, so Zhu Yuanzhang asked the harem concubines to be buried. Although we can have many reasons for appropriateness from the perspective of history, we still cannot hide the cruelty of the martyrdom system and the disregard and trampling on human life.
This system of martyrdom is entirely the dross of history, and the cruel harm of the living to accompany the burial of the dead is a great oppression of the powerless. Those in power have enjoyed all kinds of preferential treatment before they die, but they are still greedy for everything they want to have after death. This is caused by the feudal totalitarian system, and it is also a deformity caused by human greed.
This system of living burial was not completely abolished until 1673, and it was withdrawn from the stage of history.
