"Thank you, Chinese military doctor!" On January 6, at the entrance of the 103 Hospital of the Lao People's Army, a 91-year-old man kept expressing his gratitude through an interpreter.

The Chinese military doctors mentioned by the old man are experts from the sixth batch of medical experts from the Chinese People's Liberation Army who arrived in Laos last November. The old man was one of the most seriously ill patients to be treated by the medical team upon arrival.

On December 15 last year, the appearance of the elderly who first came to the doctor really surprised the medical staff - because of the huge tumor in the body, the elderly were very weak.

After careful consultation, it was learned that the tumor of the elderly had grown for 13 years, and he also suffered from chronic diseases such as hypertension and asthma. Previously, due to the remoteness of the residence and the extreme inconvenience of transportation, the elderly have not been able to receive special treatment. After a detailed examination of the patient, the expert team quickly convened experts in anesthesia, cardiology, nursing and other related aspects to conduct a rigorous evaluation and determine the surgical plan. Finally, after adjusting blood pressure and blood glucose and performing respiratory training for a week, the expert team successfully removed the huge tumor on December 28.

After the operation, the team of nursing experts gave careful care to the elderly in terms of diet and psychology. It is reported that this is the first time that the 103 Hospital of the Lao People's Army has successfully completed complex surgery for such an elderly patient.

"While providing medical services, we also focus on helping Lao medical staff improve their skills." Cai Guoqing, the leader of the 6th batch of medical expert groups for the elderly, passed on the relevant knowledge of the preoperative preparation and intraoperative points of the elderly patients to the medical staff of the elderly in the process of the main surgery. On weekdays, the expert group also realizes the transformation of medical assistance from a single "blood transfusion" to a strengthened "hematopoiesis" through teaching rounds and training courses.

Transnational truth warms people's hearts. At present, in the face of the challenges brought by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the experts of the medical expert group have faced difficulties, and on the basis of doing a good job in their own protection, they have further strengthened their counterpart assistance, carried out in-depth medical rounds, consultation and surgery, teaching and training, etc., and made positive contributions to protecting the health of the Lao military and civilians and deepening exchanges and cooperation in the field of health and service between the Chinese and Laotian armies.
