For good talents, it is not "three Gu Maolu", but "thirty Gu Maolu", which reflects Xiaomi's emphasis on talents. Before it was often rumored that Huawei spent millions of annual salaries to compete for talented teenagers, etc., the competition of today's enterprises is often the competition of talents. Managing an enterprise is like this, and governing a country is the same, Mozi said at the beginning: "If you enter the country and do not have its people, you will perish." Seeing the wise and not in a hurry, they slow down their kings. There is no hurry, no soldier is worried about the country. Slowly forgetting the wise, and those who can survive in their country have never had it. This probably means that if the magi are not given preferential treatment to the magi, then the state will perish. When the Magi are discovered, they should be appointed immediately, which is the most urgent thing, because without the Magi, there is no one to discuss the affairs of the state with the monarch. Mozi said that if you neglect the Magi and abandon the Magi, the country can still be in peace and stability for a long time, and this kind of thing has never happened!
Mozi also cites the stories of Duke Wen of Jin, Duke Huan of Qi, and King Gou of Yue, illustrating the importance of appointing sages. Mozi said that in the past, Duke Wen of Jin was forced to flee abroad, and later with the help of his uncle and Gao Yan [yǎn], he eventually rectified the world; Duke Huan of Qi was forced to leave the country and later dominated the princes with the help of Guan Zhong and Bao Shuya; Yue Wang Gou was humiliated by King Wu, and with the help of Fan Li [lí] and Wen Zhong, he eventually became a generation of sages who threatened the Central Plains. The reason why these three people can succeed is because they can bear the burden of humiliation, have the help of the wise men, and eventually become famous in the world. Mozi said that the most successful people never fail, followed by failure, and then find ways to succeed, because they are good at using people.
The appointment of the Magi is not only in the ability of the Magi to assist the king. Another important role of the Magi is to avoid the arbitrariness of the king and to prevent the king from making mistakes. Mozi said that a truly good monarch should be "strict with himself and lenient with others", and that around the monarch, there must be someone who dares to speak out, someone who dares to express different views, and the monarch must be tolerant of them. If the courtiers only value the lord and do not dare to speak out, and the confidant ministers are silent [jiān], and the ministers who have bad relations only secretly sigh, the truly useful suggestions will be blocked, and the resentment will be depressed in the hearts of the people, and the country will be in danger. At that time, Xia Jie and the King of Shang were because they lost the sages of the world, which led to the fall of the country.
Therefore, Mozi believes that on the one hand, the magi can provide advice and advice to assist the king to achieve hegemony, on the other hand, the magi can also let the king see his own shortcomings and prevent the king from making mistakes. Because, no matter how strong a person is, there are times when he makes mistakes, and a person often loses in his own strengths and advantages. Mozi's insight into human nature is very profound, he said, now there are five awls, one of which is the sharpest, then this one must be the first to be broken. If there are five knives, one of which sharpens the fastest, then this one must also be damaged first. Therefore, sweet wells are the most likely to dry up, upright trees are the most likely to be cut down, turtles are the first to be burned for asagiri, and divine snakes are the first to be exposed to rain.
Mozi also gave an example that the Shang Dynasty sage Bigan died because he was too straight; the Zhou Dynasty warrior Meng Ben [bēn] was killed because he was brave and strong; Xi Shi was shen jiang because she was too beautiful; Wu Qi was split by the car because he had too much merit. Throughout the ages, many self-righteous people have died from their superiority. Therefore, even if a person is strong, he still needs someone to point out his weaknesses and deficiencies, and the extremes of things must be the law of the development of things, which is also very profound in Confucian and Taoist thought. We ancients believed that everything should be just right, and it is not advisable to be too full in doing things.
Lao Tzu said in the Tao Te Ching that "the movement of the opposite Path" means that anything that reaches an extreme will go to its opposite, and that prosperity and decline are natural laws. Lao Tzu said: "It is better to hold on to what is profitable than it has been; to be sharp and sharp is not to be guaranteed for a long time; to be full of gold and jade, to be able to keep it; to be rich and proud, to blame oneself." Meritorious retreat, the way of heaven. This means that people who are too complacent are bound to fall, show too much sharpness, will not last long, are too strong and easy to break, are always domineering, and are easily hit. Only by achieving success and retreating, and containing convergence, can this be in line with the way of nature.
This is true of a person, and the same is true of a country, and Guan Zhong's Guan Zi also puts forward a similar insight, Guan Zhong said: "The death of all nations is also the death of its elders." Man's self-loss is also due to his strengths, so the good swimmer dies in Liangchi, and the good shooter dies in Nakano. Guan Zhong said, but the decline and fall of a country is often because of its strengths; a person's failure is often because of his advantages.
Therefore, people who are good at swimming often die on beam ponds, and those who are good at hunting often die in the wilderness.
