Microsoft hired a former Apple chip architect to help with its cloud server chip design

Webmaster's House (ChinaZ.com) January 13 News: According to Bloomberg, Microsoft hired semiconductor designer Mike Filippo, who worked as a chip architect at Apple. Microsoft's goal is to further expand the chip design of cloud computing servers. At Microsoft, Filippo will work on Azure Server processors.

After a decade in semiconductor design at ARM, Filippo joined Apple in 2019 and has been credited with developing some of the underlying technologies used in mobile phones and other devices. Filippo is responsible for developing several Arm chips, including the Cortex-A76, Cortex-A72, Cortex-A57, and the upcoming 7nm+ and 5nm chips.

Prior to joining ARM, Filippo worked at AMD and Intel, where he was a well-known engineer on Apple's chip team. In recent weeks, Apple has been losing some chip employees.
