At the age of 18, he became the political commissar of the division, ripped off his epaulettes in public when he was awarded the title, and did not want to wear a military uniform until he died and was buried

In 1927, in the face of a sharp turn in the revolutionary situation, our Party had to resist in its own way, and within a few months, armed uprisings broke out in many parts of the country, including the Xiangganbian Autumn Harvest Uprising led by the Chairman. In the general situation, the weak rebel army can only end up in defeat. However, the chairman judged the situation and made the most correct decision to march, and with the support of the majority of the people, he finally saved the spark of this revolution and created the Jinggangshan revolutionary base area.

Speaking of this, we have to mention the Chaling in Hunan, where China's first county-level government of workers, peasants, and soldiers was established in the search for the road of revolution. Under the influence of the red revolutionary ideology, the people of Chaling fully supported the Red Army, and during the revolutionary war, there were more than 50,000 martyrs who sacrificed their lives alone. After the baptism of war, the surviving warriors also grew into officers at all levels in the army, and after the founding of the Country, among the peasant children of Chaling, a total of 25 founding generals were born, one of whom is today's protagonist, Duan Suquan, who has suffered several life and death tribulations.

Accept the heavy responsibility in the face of danger

Duan Suquan was born in 1916, under the oppression of feudal landlords and local bureaucrats, the Duan family lived a life of poverty like the surrounding rural neighbors, and later the workers' and peasants' revolutionary army came here, the peasant movement gradually arose, and every household lived a good life and looked forward to the future.

Why defend the hard-won achievements of the revolution, every household actively participated in the revolutionary queue, and in 1932, at the age of 16, Duan Suquan also joined the ranks of the Red Army. Compared with other soldiers, Duan Suquan had a very high starting point, he was a communist before joining the army, and he had more than two years of local work experience, such a person naturally would not be ignored, and he became the propaganda director of the political department of the Red Sixth Army less than a year after joining the army.

His position in the army continued to increase, but the situation in the Central Soviet Region was precarious, and preparations for strategic transfer began, so the Red Seventh Army and the Red Sixth Army took the lead in embarking on the journey. Under the leadership of Ren Bishi and Xiao Ke, the Red Sixth Army moved to fight for thousands of miles, and finally met with the Red Second Army led by General He.

At the same time, the Central Red Army began a strategic shift, and the Red Second and Sixth Armies also received orders from the Central Military Commission to return to western Hunan from Guizhou in order to attract the attention of the enemy and coordinate the actions of the Central Red Army. Before leaving, the Qiandong Independent Division was specially established, and the 18-year-old Duan Suquan and Wang Guangguang were appointed as the political commissar and division commander of the division. Their task was to hold the enemy back and cover the eastward advance of the large army.

Although Wang Guangguang and Duan Suquan did not hesitate to take on this heavy task, how to complete the task of blocking the enemy still had to be carefully planned, because one-third of the whole division was wounded and sick, and all kinds of guns could only be divided into two people, and what was even more fatal was that there was a serious shortage of weapons and ammunition.

At the age of 18, he became the political commissar of the division, ripped off his epaulettes in public when he was awarded the title, and did not want to wear a military uniform until he died and was buried

Even at this disadvantage, the Independent Division managed to hold the enemy back for more than twenty days and cover the safe transfer of the main force, but they were trapped in enemy encirclement. During the breakthrough, the team suffered heavy casualties, Wang Guangguang was heroically sacrificed, Duan Suquan lost three toes on his left foot, and his right ankle bone was pierced and shattered, although he was seriously injured, his life was worry-free.

Fortunately, good people help each other in times of difficulty

Later, when he was exiled to Xiushan County, he was hidden in a cave by a fellow named Li Mufu, who delivered food and medicine every day, and his injuries gradually improved, and later a carpenter named Su Shihua made him a pair of crutches. Under the cover of the local villagers, he disguised himself to come to Huangtuling, fortunately met a Chaling fellow Liu Weichu, took him in to live at home for more than a month, to see that he was fully recovered, which entrusted someone to bring a letter to his father, and finally After Su Father expressed his gratitude, he took his son back to his hometown.

The experience of these months was the most dangerous period in Su Quan's life, and if he was not careful, he might have sacrificed his life for the revolution, but fortunately, he met well-meaning people along the way, which saved his life.

At the age of 18, he became the political commissar of the division, ripped off his epaulettes in public when he was awarded the title, and did not want to wear a military uniform until he died and was buried

Listening to his son's suffering, his father was a little afraid, and in order to stabilize Duan Suquan, he entrusted people to find an errand for him in the township government and married him a daughter-in-law. He started a family and had family responsibilities and concerns, but he still did not retain his heart. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, after learning the news that the Red Army had reorganized the Eighth Route Army, he could not contain the passion in his heart for serving the country and persuaded his parents and wife to re-embark on the road to the army.

Duan Suquan, who had been missing for three years, had returned, which really surprised many people, and his old leader Ren Bi was also full of emotions when he received him.

Leading soldiers to fight wars has made great achievements

Although he had not brought troops for three years, after the tempering of the anti-Japanese battlefield, he once again became a high-ranking general with good command, and after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he was promoted to commander and political commissar of the Jirecha Military Region.

This appointment was very sudden for Duan Suquan, but fortunately, the new partner was an old acquaintance, and it was not too much for him to call the political commissar of the column Liu Daosheng Fa Xiao. Before joining the Red Army, Duan Suquan served as an instructor for the Children's Regiment, and this regimental commander was Liu Daosheng.

Liu Daosheng

At the age of 15, Su Quan was elected as the secretary of the county party committee of the Chaling Communist Youth League, Liu Daosheng served as the head of the organization, at that time Duan Suquan was still called Zu Zai, Liu Daosheng felt bad, and casually gave him the name of Su Quan, which is the meaning of Soviet power, but Duan Suquan felt good and actually used his life.

The two were paired together, and naturally there was no need to say that the Eighth Column was also more and more courageous in the Vietnam War under the leadership of the two men, and in the Battle of Western Liaoning alone, the Eighth Column destroyed nearly 10,000 enemy troops. After the Liaoshen Campaign, the whole army has expanded to nearly 60,000 people, and the weapons and equipment are not what they used to be, and soon the whole army was reorganized, and the eighth column was reorganized into the Forty-fifth Army.

When the title was awarded after the founding of the People's Republic of China, duan Suquan's seniority could be awarded the rank of lieutenant general, and if nothing else, his close comrade-in-arms Liu Daosheng was the founding lieutenant general.

Because of his experience of leaving the team for three years, it affected his award, and he was finally awarded the title of "temporary major general". Upon learning of this news, the general could not accept it for a while, and directly ripped off the epaulettes in anger, and later rarely wore military uniforms, especially in 1993, after the old general died of illness, he was also buried in Zhongshan suits according to his requirements, which was rare among the founding generals.

The founding major general with great affection

Although this incident has become a hurdle in the general's heart, he treats his work seriously and conscientiously. Treat your loved ones or benefactors with sincerity. After the general left home to join the Eighth Route Army in 1937, his wife Tan Qiuying waited at home for her husband not to return, thinking that he died on the battlefield. A few years later, due to heavy family pressure, he could only remarry with his daughter.

And Duan Suquan, who was rising from a higher position in the army, also needed a partner who took care of his life and living, and many comrades-in-arms looked for him to find objects, but he remembered his wife at home and never agreed. It was not until 1948 that he wrote to his family and heard the news of his wife's remarriage that he re-established the family with others two years later. In 1952, when he returned to his hometown to visit his relatives, he also paid a special visit to Tan Qiuying to see if she was doing well, and told her that she could find him in the future if she had difficulties.

As for several of his fellow countrymen who had rescued him in distress, he also inquired about his news from many sources, and fortunately, all the benefactors met with him and let the general realize his wish to repay his kindness.
