introduction
"Why don't the boys take Wu Hook and charge Guan Shan Fifty States?" Whenever the Chinese nation is facing a huge disaster, countless martyrs have stepped forward, thrown their heads and spilled their blood, left their hometowns, and gone to the battlefield. Among them, many outstanding generals have emerged, who have led the army to guard our great rivers and mountains with their own command and ability!
In the face of heroes, how to repay? Reciprocate with honor! After the war, our country praised these people and awarded them medals. The medal symbolizes a person's honor, and if he has made great achievements in the battle, then we will naturally reward him accordingly.

But there was a general who, dissatisfied with his rank, ripped off his epaulettes and did not wear them, and he no longer wore a military uniform until his death. His actions surprised everyone around him.
So why did he do that? Was it really that he was dissatisfied with the rank arrangement? Why did he refuse to wear a military uniform until his death?
In fact, he once made great achievements in battle and made great contributions in the process of founding the country. In terms of seniority, he can be regarded as a big figure at the level of elders.
1. 18-year-old political commissar, young and famous
The general, named Duan Suquan, was born in 1916 in Chaling, Hunan Province, and was a typical rural boy with parents who were ordinary farmers. When he was a child, due to his parents' foresight, he attended private schools and higher primary schools and received basic education. Dissatisfied with the oppression of the landlords, he joined the Red Army in 1926 and joined the resistance.
He joined the army at a young age, was busy in the army, and won the trust of everyone. When he was 18 years old, he became the political commissar of the Qiandong Independent Division of the Red Army.
It should be known that he joined the army at the age of 16 and became a rare political commissar after only two years, which is enough to see his outstanding strength and trust in the army.
He also deserves his position. In 1932, he led the team to do propaganda work, gathered many young people to join the team, strengthened the local team, and he also excavated a group of outstanding Young Pioneers to join the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. Through the efforts of Duan Suquan, our strength in Qiandongnan has been developed.
Unfortunately, in the face of this growing team, it was soon targeted by the jackals and tigers. In 1934, due to Duan Suquan's outstanding contribution, he became the political commissar of the shangshi.
Not long after, the Guizhou warlord Wang Jialie and the Sichuan warlord Liu Xiang looked at the Red Army in the southwest region and decided to strangle the Red Army in its cradle.
In order to transfer the large troops, the superiors arranged for Duan Suquan to stay behind and cover the retreat of the large troops. There is no doubt that this was a difficult task, when the warlords of Sichuan and Guizhou sent heavy troops to surround the Red Army in the southwest region, and if they were not careful, the entire Red Army would be strangled by the enemy.
Duan Suquan was still a young man at this time, similar to the age of contemporary college students, and many people in the army felt that he was unreliable and felt that he could not do it.
However, Duan Suquan resolutely accepted the appointment, and he and his division commander Wang Guangguang led 800 guerrilla guerrillas to cover the retreat of the large troops. On October 28, 1933, after Duan Suquan and Wang Guangguang watched the large troops leave the southern waist, 800 of them immediately waved their divisions westward, disguised as the main force of the Red Army.
They did not expect that the warlords of Guizhou and Sichuan would actually send an army of more than 10,000 people.
The gap between 800 people and tens of thousands of people, such a huge disparity in the number of people, if it is an ordinary person, has long been eaten by the experienced warlord troops to "wrap dumplings" completely.
However, Duan Suquan was capable of commanding the troops together with the division commander Wang Guangguang, relying on the lofty mountains and mountains in the southwest region, and struck hard at the enemy. More importantly, the warlords of Sichuan and Guizhou mistakenly believed that Duan Suquan was the main force of the Red Army, so they placed the main force in the west, creating conditions for the retreat of the large red army.
The enemy was beaten by Duan Suquan and Wang Guangguang's troops, which made the Guizhou warlord Wang Jialie feel very annoyed and ordered the whole army to concentrate on encircling and suppressing Duan Suquan! The Sichuan warlord Liu Xiang also ordered troops to join the encirclement and suppression process.
For a time, southeastern Qiandong became very lively, and the Sichuan army continued to throw in, in coordination with the local Guizhou army, vowing to crush Duan Suquan and Wang Guangguang into ten thousand pieces.
The strength of ten regiments was thrown into it, and the already huge disparity between the enemy and ourselves was violently widened.
At the end of November 1933, a mistake was made to encircle the enemy. Under the enemy's crazy attack, the Qiandong Independent Division ran out of ammunition, almost all of the more than 800 soldiers were sacrificed, and the division commander Wang Guangguang was captured by the enemy, tortured by the enemy, and heroically defended himself in prison. Duan Suquan, on the other hand, was seriously injured and improved after relying on the care of the surrounding residents.
In order to hide his eyes, he disguised himself as a beggar, was wounded and begged, and returned to Hunan with the help of the enthusiastic masses. He went through many hardships and finally returned to the organization. Jokes were made when I returned to the organization.
In September 1937, Duan Suquan returned to the organization in a sloppy state. At that time, Ren Bi, who was organizing the work, was shocked to see Duan Suquan, because the organization thought that Duan Suquan had died, and earlier, the organization learned that all the troops led by Wang Guangguang were buried in the hands of the enemy, and they were all grieving for the sacrifice of their companions, and held a memorial service for them.
Ren Bi also personally attended his memorial service that year.
Seeing his old comrade-in-arms, Ren Bishi wept with joy. Soon, Duan Suquan resumed his red army post. Later, in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the War of Liberation and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, he performed well and commanded the troops to make outstanding achievements.
In 1955, the state decided to award medals to the generals in recognition of their great contributions to the founding of New China. There were some minor accidents in the process.
Second, tear off the epaulettes and frighten those around you
Logically, a person became a political commissar at the age of 18 and fought for New China until 1955, and it is not too much to award lieutenant generals. What's more, Duan Suquan was also a soldier born into death, participated in large and small battles, and performed well, rarely violating discipline, and even even people felt that he should be awarded the title of general.
However, at that time, he was awarded a major general, and what was even more infuriating was that he was still "temporarily granted"! It is said that Duan Suquan was very dissatisfied with this and felt that his credit was at least that of a lieutenant general, so he was so angry that he ripped off his epaulettes.
He was not convinced to go to his superiors to ask for an explanation, and the superiors said that because he had "problems left over from history," he was temporarily appointed major general.
Many people believe that this so-called "historical legacy" is the three years that he disappeared.
You must know that in these three years, he escaped from the independent division that was completely destroyed by the army, and then returned to his hometown, in order to hide his eyes and ears, he married people in the local area, worked with people in the fields, and pretended to be an ordinary person.
It was only when the Kuomintang relaxed its vigilance that he traveled from Hunan to Shanxi to find the organization and return to the troops. In this process, no one knows what has happened to him in the past three years and whether he has done anything to leak secrets, so some people feel that he may have "historical problems", so he is temporarily awarded to major general.
However, more people believe that the reason why Duan Suquan was temporarily granted to major generals was because of one thing. And this matter is related to Duan Suquan's personality.
Third, stand up and reveal the truth
Duan Suquan is notoriously harsh, not only harsh on himself, but also very careful about the results of the battlefield. In 1953, the Volunteer Air Command reported the results of the battle, and they said that our MiG fighters were tied with American fighters, and we lost one and the other side lost one.
Duan Suquan was very suspicious of this, so he investigated. After many studies, the real data is not so, he originally wanted to report to the organization, but the Volunteer Air Force Command suppressed Duan Suquan's voice and insisted on lying about the battle achievements.
Duan Suquan could not sit idly by, so he directly went to the person in charge and reported what the Air Force Command had done with detailed data. Naturally, the main person in charge of the Volunteer Air Command was punished and demoted.
This move provoked many people, so that Duan Suquan did not get a good reputation. In 1953, he became the focus of the review. That's why he was awarded the title of Major General, and only temporarily.
After his death, he did not wear military uniforms like other generals, but in The Zhongshan suit. He was the only general to do so.
epilogue
Looking back at Duan Suquan's experience, his life has been bumpy all the way, from becoming a political commissar at the age of 18, to escaping death later, and then to the storm of major generals behind, he made mistakes, but he made more meritorious contributions. He has suffered many grievances, but he has always adhered to his original intention and not forgotten his historical mission.
Insist on self, seek truth from facts, he does not covet vanity, merit is credit, fault is fault. The reason why he is angry is probably related to the fact that he has revealed the truth but has been scrutinized. As a general, it was no wonder he was so angry.
Of course, the title is only vanity, more to see his personal contribution. There is no doubt that Duan Suquan's exploits will last forever and deserve the eternal admiration of our descendants!
