In 1932, the 16-year-old Duan Suquan joined the Red Army, before joining the army he had been the secretary of the Young Communist Party Committee in his hometown of Chaling, for such a revolutionary cadre who was experienced in such a struggle, as soon as he joined the army, he was reused, and in October 1934, after the Red Second and Sixth Armies joined the division, they prepared to march to northwest Hunan Province, leaving Duan Suquan, who was only 18 years old, as the political commissar of the Qiandong Independent Division, and the division commander Wang Guangguang led the whole division to cover the task of the main force retreat.
Qiandong Independent Division was founded by He Bingyan, but at this time the main force of the division was incorporated into the Red Second Army, more than 300 of the only 800 people were wounded, the whole division only had more than 400 guns, many fighters could only fight with the enemy with large knives, but Wang Guangguang and Duan Suquan relied on such a weak fighting force, flexible guerrilla tactics, with the help of the cover of dense forests, and the enemy circumvented, completed the task of covering the main force's retreat, but after all, the enemy was outnumbered, and the independent division surrounded by the enemy army was almost completely destroyed after running out of ammunition. After Wang Guangguang was captured and killed, Duan Suquan, the political commissar of the division, led several people to break through the siege.
In the process of dodging the enemy's pursuit, the comrades around him fell one by one, and finally only Duan Suquan, who was wounded in the ankle, fortunately at this time he had already escaped the pursuit of the enemy, he endured the pain and came to the town of Yimei in Xiushan County, he could no longer walk, at this time several Tuanding noticed him, one of them also wanted to take down the bayonet and kill him, fortunately, a local farmer named Li Mufu stopped them: "Don't kill him, this is a human life, see if he has money?" Forget it! Several Tuan Ding also knew Li Mufu, and left after finding a piece of ocean on Duan Suquan's body.
The kind Li Mufu carried Duan Suquan to the Lingguan Temple, and then brought a quilt, water and food from home, let him temporarily recuperate here, and later felt unsafe, and then transferred him to a cave behind Li Mufu's house, in order to let Duan Suquan recuperate, Li Mufu also collected medicinal materials, after more than a month, Duan Suquan could leave, felt that he could no longer drag the benefactor, Duan Suquan took a pair of crutches made for him by Li Mufu, and begged all the way back to his hometown Chaling.
Duan Suquan stayed at home for three years, the family helped him find an errand, and also married him to become a family, but Duan Suquan has always been worried about his own team in his heart, in September 1937, he finally heard the news of the Red Army, he gave up a comfortable life, bid farewell to his father and wife, all the way from Chaling, thousands of miles to the Shanxi Taiyuan Eighth Route Army Office, when Ren Bi saw Duan Suquan appear, he could not believe his eyes, he said excitedly: "Duan Suquan, you are still alive!" At that time, we thought you were all sacrificed, and we gave you a memorial service. ”
In 1948, on the recommendation of Cheng Zihua, Duan Suquan succeeded Huang Yongsheng as the commander of the Eighth Column of Dongye, and after the founding of the People's Republic of China, he became the commander of the Air Force of the Northeast Military Region, and in 1955 Huang Yongsheng was awarded the rank of general, but Duan Suquan was "temporarily awarded major general" because of the historical problem of leaving the army for three years.
