At the Beijing Winter Olympics, speed skating included 14 events in the women's and men's competitions of 500 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters, 3000 meters, 5000 meters, group departure and group pursuit. Based on the results of the four ISU World Cup races this season, the Chinese sports delegation won 14 places in the speed skating competition of the Beijing Winter Olympics (including 8 female players and 6 male team members), as well as 22 sports places. In the women's event, 2 seats in the 500 meters, 3 seats in the 1000 meters and 1500 meters, 2 seats in the 3000 meters, 1 seat in the 5000 meters, 2 seats in the group departure and the team chase qualification; in the men's event, 2 seats in the 500 meters, 2 seats in the 1000 meters, 2 seats in the 1500 meters, 1 seat in the group departure, and the team chase qualification.

According to the arrangement, the selection competition will be held in two rounds, the first round will be held from January 13 to 15, and the second round will be held from January 18 to 20, using a points system. Among them, the men's 500 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters set the total points, the two rounds of a total of 4 people selected; the women's 500 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters set the total points, the two rounds of a total of 6 people selected; women 3000 meters, 5000 meters set the total points, the two rounds of the selection of a total of 2 people. Athletes participating in the beijing Winter Olympics speed skating group departure and team chase events will be selected from the final shortlist.

Judging from the selection methods released by the Winter Sports Management Center of the State General Administration of Sport, players with stronger overall strength in short-medium or long-distance distances will be more likely to qualify for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, which is also in line with the arrangement that the number of participants in the Winter Olympic Games is smaller than the number of seats in the project, which is conducive to both team members and events.
