From the age of 16 to 22, Du Zhaocai played for the Jilin ice hockey team and the Bayi ice hockey team. During this period, Liu Qiang had graduated from Shenyang Sports Institute and stayed on as an athletics teacher to teach, and among the students who attended his general elective class was Nan Yong, who later served as the director of the Football Sports Management Center of the State General Administration of Sports and vice president of the Chinese Football Association. As for whether he ever met Du Zhaocai, a football major, in a general election class, Liu Qiang can't really remember. But he remembered that among the ice hockey players who were recruited, Du Zhaocai was "the smallest", but his physical fitness was good, "short and playing as a striker, not too thin." During college, Du Zhaocai was probably not a "stormy figure" on campus. The reporter of "Global People" visited a number of teachers and staff who knew the school's situation in the family hospital of Shenyang Sports Institute, and everyone said that they had not heard of Du Zhaocai's name at that time.

Liu Qiang remembers that after Du Zhaocai introduced the general situation, he strongly persuaded Shenyang Sports Institute to go on the canoeing project, promising that the provincial team would go out of logistics, go to train here, train there, and give a few kayaks.
