After the disastrous defeat of the Western Route Army, the soldiers of the Red Army were exiled to the people, and more than ten years later, they wisely captured Ma Bufang's confidants

Ren Tingdong, also known as Lin Haibin, was born in 1916 in a poor peasant family in Huoshan County, Dabie Mountain, Anhui Province. In 1930, he joined the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, successively serving as a platoon commander of the 29th Regiment of the 10th Division of the Red 4th Army, the secretary of the Political Department of the 276th Regiment of the 93rd Division of the Red 31st Army, and participated in the anti-"encirclement and suppression" struggle in Eyu-Anhui and the four major battles of huang'an, Shangcheng, Huangchuan and Sujiabu of the Red Fourth Front.

In 1933, Ren Tingdong was transferred to the Political Department of the Red 93rd Division, and participated in the three offensive campaigns of Yinan, Yingqu and Yida in the anti-"three-way siege", and then participated in the more fierce anti-"six-way siege" and the world-famous Long March. During the Long March, the organization sent Ren Tingdong to the headquarters to learn radio station operations, and was later assigned to the radio station of the Third Bureau of the Red Fourth Front as a radio operator.

In October 1936, Ren Tingdong arrived in Huining, Gansu Province, with the three main forces of the Red Army, and won the division. In late October, the Red Fourth Front crossed the Yellow River to begin its western expedition, and after the Battle of Jingtai, the troops were reorganized into the Western Route Army and entered the Hexi Corridor.

In the spring of 1937, Ren Tingdong was transferred to the Red 30th Army as a soldier. On March 14, the Western Route Army held a "Stone Nest Conference" in Qilian Mountain. In order to preserve strength, the meeting decided to organize the remaining troops into 3 detachments to disperse the operation, and Ren Tingdong was organized in the left detachment and followed Li Xiannian to the west in the Qilian Mountains.

After more than 40 days of arduous trekking, the troops finally walked out of the Qilian Mountains to reach Anxi. To make matters worse, at this time, the troops were again attacked by the horse bandit army, and the left detachment retreated while fighting, and was surrounded by enemy troops at the white pier, and fought fiercely until dark.

After the breakthrough of the troops was scattered by the enemy, Ren Tingdong and his comrades hid in the Gobi Desert for one night, and the next day they encountered a horse bandit cavalry dragnet search, Ren Tingdong and more than 160 Red Army soldiers were unfortunately captured, and after 7 days of detention in Anxi County, they were escorted to Zhangye and detained in a dilapidated camel shop on North Street.

Ren Tingdong and a comrade-in-arms managed to escape from the camel shop, and then pretended to be a countryman pulling dung, and mixed out of the city with the cart pulling dung. At dawn, they met a sister-in-law who was pulling grass in a crop field next to a village, and the sister-in-law saw that the two were Red Army dolls and told them: "Horse bandits are searching everywhere, and there is no hiding here, so go east." The kind sister-in-law pointed out a path and gave a few pieces of bread she had brought to the two Fallen Red Army soldiers.

At that time, they only knew that the Red Army's troops were on the east side of the Yellow River, so the two of them begged all the way to the east and evaded the search of horse bandits, wading thousands of miles across the Yellow River to Lanzhou. Ren Tingdong did not dare to enter the city, and walked hundreds of miles around the mountain road from outside the city to the remote Shangying Village in Lintao County.

Here, together with local villagers, they worked as short-term workers, carried firewood, dug up the ground, moved stones, delivered manure, and did various agricultural work. In order not to reveal their identities, they hid their names, and Ren Tingdong changed his name to Lin Yin. Even so, a year later, Ren Tingdong was discovered by the local security chief and sold Zhuangding, and was incorporated into the Tan Fulie Department of the 10th Cavalry Division of the Kuomintang Central Army, and in 1941 he was stationed in Zhangye with the troops. Although Ren Tingdong put on the uniform of the Kuomintang, he did not forget that after the defeat of the Western Route Army in Hexi in 1937, the ferocious general of the Ma Bandit Army, Brigadier Han Qigong, used extremely cruel means to kill a large number of captured Red Army soldiers and killed Mr. Gao Jincheng, who rescued the Red Army.

A few days later, Ren Tingdong found an opportunity to escape from the camp of the Kuomintang troops and once again fled zhangye city. He followed the place where the Western Route Army had fought, all the way south into the Qilian Mountains. I don't know how many ravines I drilled, how long I walked, and finally came to a place called Gray Stripe Ditch, where I made a living on a small coal kiln in the small ditch door. Later, ren Tingdong married a cooking woman named Peng Xiuying on the coal kiln.

The small ditch gate of the gray strip ditch is located in the deep mountains, and there is no knowledge of the changes in the world to the outside world. Fast forward to 1949, the People's Liberation Army triumphantly advanced into the great northwest, the Horse Bandit Army collapsed, and Zhangye City was liberated, but Ren Tingdong, who had lived in the mountains for nearly 10 years, did not know anything about it.

One morning, Ren Tingdong had just come out of the cave, when he suddenly heard the noise of people in the ravine, he walked over and looked around, and found a group of scattered soldiers shouting and drinking a group of yaks, carrying boxes, bags, and luggage, and was walking in a panic towards the deep mountains, among which there was a fat man in his 50s crouching on his horse, with a long black beard floating on his chest, and several soldiers with guns clustered around him, this guy was the commander of the majia army's new cavalry army--the horse bandit brigade commander who killed a large number of captured Red Army during the Battle of Hexi that year--Han Qigong.

When the Soldiers of the People's Liberation Army approached Zhangye City, Han Qigong hurriedly took his newly married little wife, the granddaughter of Zhang Chengren, the leader of the Damanbao militia, into the mountains to escape, in a vain attempt to find a place to regenerate. Two days later, Ren Tingdong was walking around the top of the mountain, and happened to see a bandit in military uniform, saying that he wanted to find some water to drink.

Ren Tingdong wanted to inquire about the news outside, so he led the bandit soldiers to the cave, and while almost keeping the bandits to eat, he finally learned that Zhangye had been liberated, and he was sent by Han Qigong to Zhangye to inquire about the news. At this moment, Ren Tingdong's heart could no longer be calm, Han Qigong had killed so many Red Army soldiers, and now he must not let go of this murderous executioner who did not blink! Therefore, Ren Tingdong, who was full of excitement, got up overnight, drove more than a hundred miles, and came to Zhangye City at noon the next day.

Ren Tingdong inquired all the way to find the Military Control Commission, talked about his own experience, and reported han Qigong's whereabouts, Fan Jianghai, chief of the Public Security Section of the Military Control Commission, tightly held Ren Tingdong's hand and said: "Comrade, thank you!" You have suffered all these years, welcome back to the revolutionary ranks! In the end, after the study of the head of the unit, it was believed that the best strategy was to win Han Qigong to surrender himself, and the best person to complete this task was Ren Tingdong. When Fan Jianghai asked him if he dared to see Han Qigong, Ren Tingdong replied in a local manner, "Why don't you dare?" I was a soldier and I wasn't afraid! ”

On September 22, 1949, Ren Tingdong took the surrender letter from the Military Control Commission and made an appointment with another exiled Red Army member surnamed Su, and the two entered the mountain together and passed through the Qizi Gorge to find han Qigong and his gang hiding in the burning ditch.

There were some cave dwellings there, and there were about a dozen bandits swimming in the ravines, and Ren Tingdong shouted, "Who is Han Qigong?" The bandits hurriedly raised their guns and asked in panic, "What are you?" Ren Tingdong replied loudly: "I am the representative of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and I asked Han Qigong to come out and speak." At this time, Han Qigong had become a bird of fright, and after he fled into the mountains with the remnants, the gold and silver dollars he carried were snatched away by his subordinates and beaten and injured, and now when he heard that the representatives of the People's Liberation Army had come, he did not dare to walk out of the cave in a hurry.

Han Qigong read the PLA's letter of persuasion and felt that the general trend had gone, and if he stubbornly resisted, there was only one way to die, so after consulting with his subordinates, he chose to surrender his weapons to the PLA. Later, Han Qigong, who was full of evil, went to the labor prison and still did not want to repent, plotted to instigate a counter-prison riot and failed, and was executed by our people's government on March 26, 1951.

Ren Tingdong made great contributions to the people and was commended and rewarded by the Military Control Commission. Subsequently, he was introduced by the Military Control Commission to Zhangye County to participate in local work, became the commander of the self-defense battalion, and later served as the head of the 8th district of Zhangye County. In 1950, Ren Tingdong rejoined the Communist Party of China, and in 1953, he was transferred to the director of the Zhangye County Supply and Marketing Cooperative, and was elected a member of the county party committee. During the Cultural Revolution, Ren Tingdong was beaten into a "traitor."

Fortunately, his son wrote a letter to Marshal Xu Qianqian, the old commander of the Western Route Army, in time, and Ren Tingdong received a certificate that he had been a Red Army, and was eventually rehabilitated. In 1980, Ren Tingdong retired from his post. In 1984, he was given the "Honor Certificate for Veteran Soldiers of the Red Army of the Western Route Army" in the organization. He died on 28 November 1991 at the age of 75.
