Jiangxi, Guangdong, Guangxi Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and other places have introduced cultivation, in Yunnan sometimes escape in humid hillside dense forests.

Native to South America.

Perennial herbaceous vine.

The stem is cylindrical, slightly troughed, with most branches, and the old branches are often purple-red; the tendrils are axillary, 13–17 cm long. Leaves alternate; petiole length 2-3 cm; middle scattered 2-6 small glands; larger, kidney-shaped, stem-hugging; palmar 5 deep lobes, 5-7 cm long, 6-8 cm wide, lobes oblong-oval, larger in the center, slightly smaller on both sides, full margin.

Single-flowered axillary, large flowers, 6–10 cm in diameter, pale green; bracts 3, broadly ovate; sepals 5, with a horn on the proximal tip of the dorsal surface; petals 5, oblong lanceolate, nearly equal length with sepals; paracosm lobes 3 rounds, filamentous, white, with blue or fuchsia at the upper and lower ends; latex corolla, purple-red, basal eye disc; stamens 5, the filament base is combined with the ovary stalk; the ovary oval, pedunculate 3, purple-red.

The berries are ovate or nearly spherical and yellow when ripe. Most of the seeds have a red false seed coat. Flowering period is from May to July.
