LG supplies POLED display in-vehicle systems to Mercedes-Benz

On January 12, LG Electronics said on its official website that LG's latest high-end in-vehicle infotainment system will be applied in the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS electric sedan.

It is reported that the LG's in-vehicle system combines the dashboard display, center console display and co-pilot display, and the three monitors into a single panoramic screen that spans the entire car dashboard.

LG Electronics said that thanks to the use of plastic organic light-emitting diode (POLED) displays, the on-board system provides drivers and passengers with clear images and text displays.

It is understood that compared to LCD, POLED is thinner and more resistant. In addition, the material of POLED and OLED screens is slightly different. PoleD's material is glass + plastic, and OLED's material is glass. Compared with OLED, POLED is more flexible, lighter and thinner, with more flexible plasticity, lower manufacturing costs, longer service life, more resistant to drops and other properties.

In addition, in order to increase the flexibility of high-end displays, LG Electronics has developed new technologies such as curved glass forming, surface treatment and bonding in cooperation with Mercedes-Benz engineers.

It is worth noting that LG has made a lot of cooperation progress with automakers in the automotive business last year. LG announced in October last year that it would supply high-end driver assistance system camera modules for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

In addition, LG developed a high-performance processor for Volkswagen, The In Car Application Server 3.1, which is powered by a logic chip launched by Samsung Electronics in November.

In addition, LG also sought to increase LG's future influence in the mobile business in July last year by acquiring ZKW Group, a supplier of automotive lighting and headlamps, and cybersecurity company Cyberum, as well as the establishment of an electric vehicle parts joint venture with auto parts manufacturer Magna International called LG Magna e-Powertrai.
