When the commander of this national army was captured, he also wounded several soldiers of our army, so why was he later awarded the title of colonel?

Among all the generals of the Kuomintang, Fu Zuoyi's military ability was able to rank in the forefront. In the early days of the War of Liberation, he repeatedly defeated our Party's troops in North China, causing great trouble to our army.

Until the battle of Pingjin began, his paper strength was also sufficient, with many fierce generals such as Guo Jingyun and Sun Lanfeng, as well as more than 500,000 troops, so at first Fu Zuoyi did not want to revolt.

However, as the war progressed, Fu Zuoyi's concubines were annihilated, almost to the point of exhaustion, and only then did he change his mind. Fu Zuoyi's attitude was like this, and so did his henchmen.

For example, Sun Lanfeng, the commander of the 11th Corps, who had followed Fu Zuoyi since 1925, and later became known as the two tiger generals of Fu Bu together with Dong Qiwu. He fled to Suiyuan after the defeat at Zhangjiakou, and he was the last to sign the Suiyuan Peaceful Uprising Telegram.

For example, Yuan Qingrong, the commander of the 105th Army, was captured and his subsequent treatment highlighted the leniency and benevolence of our Party.

When the commander of this national army was captured, he also wounded several soldiers of our army, so why was he later awarded the title of colonel?

Yuan Qingrong was born in 1908 in Hejian, Hebei Province, and his relationship with Fu Zuoyi came from Yan Xishan.

After Yan Xishan took charge of Shanxi, in order to cultivate his own concubines, he founded the Northern Army Officer School, and Yuan Qingrong at that time was also a hot-blooded teenager who wanted to show his ambitions by devoting himself to the army, so he was also admitted to it.

In 1928, after graduating from the military academy, Yuan Qingrong served as a platoon commander under the provisional 12th Division of the 3rd Group Army, the commander-in-chief of the 3rd Group Army was Yan Xishan, and the commander of the provisional 12th Division was Fu Zuoyi.

There is a saying that county officials are not as good as the current management, in Yuan Qingrong's heart, compared with Yan Xishan, who is high above, fu Zuoyi, who still trains them all day, is more cordial, and Fu Zuoyi is very sympathetic to soldiers, often taking out his own salary to support his subordinates, and does not like to scold subordinates, which is very different from those old warlords.

A capable and good boss to himself, Yuan Qingrong will of course follow with a dead heart. Later, Fu Zuoyi and the Jin army parted ways, and Yuan Qingrong did not hesitate to take Fu Zuoyi's side.

By September 1948, Yuan Qingrong, a 20-year-old lieutenant platoon commander, had grown into a lieutenant general and was assigned to follow the 11th Corps to deploy in Zhangjiakou.

In order to cope with the offensive of the People's Liberation Army, Fu Zuoyi set up a "one-word long snake array" along the Zhangjiakou-Beiping-Tianjin line, and when he wanted to think of three defensive zones, he could form an unbreakable defensive line, but he still thought too simply.

Chairman Mao gave Fu Zuoyi's instructions on this arrangement: "Strike two ends first, and then fight in the middle," first solve Zhangjiakou and Tianjin, cut off Fu Zuoyi's escape route, and strive to peacefully settle Peiping.

According to this instruction, starting from November 29, 1948, the 3rd Corps of the North China Military Region of the People's Liberation Army began to attack Zhangjiakou and formed a siege, preparing to induce Fu Zuoyi to send troops to help. At the same time, the Northeast Field Army secretly entered the pass and cooperated with the brother troops to annihilate Fu's reinforcements in one fell swoop.

Fu Zuoyi also thought that Dongye needed to recuperate for several months after the Liaoshen War, so he confidently and boldly sent the 35th Army and the 258th Division of the 104th Army to Zhangjiakou.

All this was in our party's calculations, but there was only a little accident, when the 2nd Corps of Dongye entered the customs, it hit Miyun by the way, so that the whereabouts were exposed, and Fu Zuoyi sensed that there was deception and urgently ordered the 35th Army to return to Beiping.

The fish took the bait, and it was not so simple to flee, and in the end, the 35th Army was annihilated by the People's Liberation Army in the new security area.

The 35th Army was originally the hope of Fubu Zhangjiakou's defenders, and the reinforcements were annihilated, and its 11th Corps was unable to stop the onslaught of the Three Corps of the North China Military Region, so the commander of the 11th Corps, Sun Lanfeng, abandoned the city and fled.

The main general ran away, and the city was even more chaotic, Yuan Qingrong saw that the situation was not good, disguised himself, and with a few guards, he mixed into the rout and fled.

In order to shake off the People's Liberation Army, Yuan Qingrong and others have been running into the mountains, but on a few occasions they have almost been caught up, and his guards are also loyal and use their lives to cover.

After a night of running in a mess, Yuan Qingrong had no one else around him, it was dark at that time, his spirit was also a little bad, and he fell into a ravine and injured his leg without noticing.

It happened that at this time, the pursuing People's Liberation Army arrived again, and several fighters went down the ravine out of concern to see his situation, but they did not expect that Yuan Qingrong, taking advantage of the lack of people, suddenly took out a pistol and shot at the soldiers of our army, immediately killing and wounding two or three fighters, and then being captured alive.

Xu Decao, commander of the 6th Column 17th Brigade of the 3rd Corps, who was in charge of the pursuit, was very angry and originally wanted to kill people to avenge themselves, but considering the policy of our army treating prisoners well, he still stubbornly endured.

After returning home, he hurriedly asked the commander of the corps, Yang Chengwu, to shoot Yuan Qingrong, but Yang Chengwu persuaded from a different angle, saying that Yuan Qingrong had not surrendered at that time, so shooting belonged to the category of combat self-protection, and the soldiers' lack of any sense of defense was also a profound lesson worth remembering. As for Yuan Qingrong, he still tried it first.

At first, Yuan Qingrong said that he was only a company commander and did not know anything about the information, but soon another prisoner of war identified him. After learning that this person was a military commander, the People's Liberation Army was also replaced by Xu Decao, whose identity was almost equal.

When Xu Decao first saw him, he remembered the few innocent warriors under his command, so he didn't give him a good look, and asked indifferently: Sun Lanfeng has already broken through, why aren't you together?

Yuan Qingrong was very cooperative at this time, and replied: I went out with Chief Sun at the Great Realm Gate, but I was lost halfway through, and I couldn't abandon the chief and ignore him, so I waited for him in the same place for a long time, so I missed the opportunity to break through.

Unexpectedly, this person was still a man, and Xu Decao's tone was slightly relaxed: Why did you choose to break through the narrow terrain of the Great Realm Gate?

Yuan Qingrong replied: The terrain of the Dajing Gate is not very good, but as long as our army can push out tens of kilometers with all its might, it is an open area, and when you get there, you will not be able to stop our troops.

Xu Decao nodded, thinking that if he was Yuan Qingrong, he might also choose to break through at the Great Realm Gate, in fact, he could not blame the blocking troops for coming too quickly, because when the 105th Army made a breakthrough plan, the intelligence had already reached the side of the People's Liberation Army through the underground party.

How to deal with Yuan Qingrong made our party a little difficult for a while, and at first it was treated according to the standards of prisoners of war. However, after Fu Zuoyi's uprising in Peiping at the end of January 1949, he learned of Yuan Qingrong's news and immediately asked Chairman Mao to release him.

At that time, Yuan Qingrong had been reformed for more than a month, his thinking was rapidly improving, and since he did have military ability, Chairman Mao did not want to chill the heart of Fu Zuoyi, a hero of the uprising, so he allowed Yuan Qingrong to make meritorious contributions.

In March 1949, Yuan Qingrong went to Suiyuan, which was Fu Zuoyi's base and there were many of Yuan Qingrong's old departments, so Yuan Qingrong used his influence to mobilize the troops stationed in Suiyuan to revolt. In September, Dong Qiwu revolted in Suiyuan, and Yuan Qingrong, who had made contributions to this, became the "general of the uprising".

In December of that year, Yuan Qingrong became deputy chief of staff of the Suiyuan Provincial Military Region, and later deputy chief of staff of the 23rd Corps.

On September 7, 1951, the 23rd Corps entered the Korean War, mainly responsible for the construction of three airports in Taichuan, Yuanli, and Nanshi, and Yuan Qingrong also went with his troops. In 1955, Yuan Qingrong was awarded the rank of colonel, the Order of Liberation of the Second Class, and later left the army to serve as a standing committee member of Hebei Province.

Yuan Qingrong died in Beijing in 1989 at the age of 81.

When the commander of this national army was captured, he also wounded several soldiers of our army, so why was he later awarded the title of colonel?

To put it mildly, Yuan Qingrong was only a defeated general of our army, and his hands were still stained with the blood of our soldiers, but he was able to receive such preferential treatment, which shows how lenient our party's policy is.

It is worth mentioning that Yuan Qingrong has three brothers, the eldest brother Yuan Qingzeng is a lieutenant general of the North China "Suppression General", the third brother Yuan Qinghe is the chief of staff of the major general of the 11th Corps Headquarters, and the three generals of the first door finally revolted, which is very rare.
